Was it adorable stop-motion animation? Why yes, it was. Thanks for asking.

I'm pretty sure that I watched this on a yearly basis during the late 70s/early 80s. My friends and I would scour the TV listings every October to find out when it was going to be aired next. Good memories.

I'm pretty thrilled to hear that it WOWED you as a first time viewer.

I've got an awesome Rankin/Bass book that's got some great Jack Davis designs for this...

And Frazetta did a poster!

Great review for a great movie. In Halloweens' past this has been a favorite in my DVD player's rotation; it's chock-full of holiday spirit and just a ton of unabashed and zany fun. Works even better with a crowd to appreciate it's "uh huh what?" elements.

I've loved the hell out of this film since I was a young'un and it'd randomly be on as a Sunday afternoon matinee on TV every few years. Watched it again for the first time in decades just last year and found it still utterly delightful.

I grew up watching this from infancy since I was born 16 years after the film was made. The ending has always horrifyed me in the way that some characters are revealed to be robots and almost everybody dies. It's like the shock you get with Hamlet where all of your main players get offed and how in Alien, Blade Runner and Westworld characters are revealed to be not human. Yes, Mad Monster Party is like Hamlet, Alien, Blade Runner and Westworld to me. I love it so much I own the soundtrack. Fantastic Holiday film.

As much as I love the Rankin-Bass Christmas stuff, I just couldn't get through this. The songs don't work, and the pacing just felt really off to me.

I'd say the best part of the film's music is the instrumental work. It's an odd one.

I drafted this for Tati when he couldn't make a day on the 60s draft (bonus round?). Pretty sure he's still never seen it. I love the character designs but agree with Dickson, after the novelty wore off the movie's a friggin' slog.
