And we've got the teaser trailer to prove it.

Bring back the Magliozzis, ditch the rest.

First off, cool to see you writing for the main page in a non BO related capacity, Andre!

Secondly, CARS is terrible and I couldn't get past the first 30 minutes. The fact that the story was so trite and by the numbers was a big part of that. While this globe trotting adventure sounds a bit more like something DREAMWORKS might cook up, at least it's a new direction for the series and not a rehash. I'm curious to see where they take it

Cars is alright as a movie, but not good as a Pixar flick. That's coming from a guy who has seenit at least 60 times by now.

I like the new direction though.

I remember some talk from Pixar that they would only do the Disney deal if they wouldn't be forced to do easy sequels to their movies. Guess Toy Story 3 and now Cars 2 shows that they were very successful with this part of the deal.

Plot from wiki:

Quote:
Lightning McQueen, his pit crew and his new crew chief, Mater, head around the world for the "Race of Champions" taking place in five different countries: Japan, Austria, Italy, a 24-hour race in France and the United Kingdom. However, Mater, involved in a case of mistaken identity, saves the life of a British secret agent named Finn McMissile and finds himself embroiled in his world of international espionage.

So first they ripped off Doc Hollywood, now they're ripping off The Man Called Flintstone?

HA! I see what you did there.

I still cannot fathom the hate for Cars. Sure it was animated Doc Hollywood, but that same criticism of ripped-off story could easily fall squarely on the shoulders of The Incredibles too.

I think Cars is disliked not for a time-worn story but it's roots in southern racing heritage and fly-over country appeal. Coastals just hate it because they despise anything resembling Americana. Was Doc Hollywood such a hated film that using it's story automatically disqualifies any imitators to hatred?

And why is a License for Vehicular Manslaughter any more palatable? Because of inferred superiority of the European life over the heartland of America? Jesus titty fucking Christ.

Hmmm...not sure how I feel about this one. Thank goodness I have 3 little girls who aren't as into CARS as much as their male playmates!!

This is such a cash cow for Disney/Pixar, I can see WHY they are making the sequel, but I am still dreading it a bit--never thought I'd have that feeling for a Pixar theatrical release. And Monsters Inc 2?? What is going on in Emeryville? Are they losing their mojo?

It's disliked because it's kind of dull and lazy, especially coming from filmmakers who had proven they knew better.

And Richard Grieco's IF LOOKS COULD KILL!
Let me guess: Timothy Dalton is playing Finn McMissile, right?
I'm a huge fan of people saying Cars is disliked because it appeals to Real Americans, not the radical left from the coasts. I think that's a terrific thing for people to talk about.
Well, I don't think Cars is anything special, but Pixar has ripped off other movies before and Cars is not the only one. A Bug's Life ripped off The Seven Samurai, for instance.

FWIW, Pixar's original plan for was for Toy Story 3 to follow fairly soon after TS2, long before the acquisition, and only the imbroglio with Disney delayed it.

Personally, I hate middle America because they love Cars, not the other way around.

If it's like the last 75% of Speed Racer mixed with James Bond, I'll be driven to see this.

Also, still haven't seen Cars...

And, just in case anybody was wondering, they made it cause Lasseter loves cars. BUM BUM BUUMM!!

Damn, I was hoping they'd at least get Micheal Keaton back in some way(however improbable). He was the best part of the first one.

A Bug's Life is SO good it's not even funny.

This post is like every second conservative pundit column circa 2005.

Am I allowed to just hate TzuDohNihm for his freedom?

I love that Larry the Cable Guy is used as a reason to hate the movie. I'm not fan of the guy but he isn't really doing his usual schtick in the movie and he only says "Git R Done" once (it was probably in his contract to satisfy his inbread fans).

As for the movie itself. I've never really gotten all the Geek hate for the movie. Especially the people that get all bent outta shape over a world of living cars (ahem...Devin...ahem). Is it really that offensive that they ripped Doc Hollywood for the story? So for one movie Pixar decided to pander strictly to kids without having a big message. So what...

And for the record I don't buy the "Coasters hate middle america" arguement either. If that were the case Talladega Nights would have bombed but it did great numbers. And that sucker is all up NASCARS ass.

Cars was boring.

It had a boring plot and it wasn't clever or funny.

In addition the "character design" is horrible, limited by the concept itself of course (anthropomorphic cars)
ElCap pretty much nails it. It's also full of a lot of pop music that the other Pixar flicks have avoided.

I personally kind of enjoy the short 1st and 3rd acts, and it is gorgeous despite the character designs, but I couldn't care less for most of the Radiator Springs stuff.
The voice casting is actually really weak for a Pixar movie, other than Newman and Keaton. Larry the Cable Guy does way better than expected, but I hate that fucker on principle.

Thank you. A Bug's Life has the misfortune of being sandwiched between the first two Toy Story films in people's minds, when it's a fine piece of animation in its own right.

And I don't hate Cars, I just found it disappointing and not on par with the rest of Pixar's output.

Yeah but a dissapointing Pixar flick is still way better than most other stuff out there.

My Nephew loves Cars, so I have seen it a lot and I have to say it does kind of grow on you.
