Again, I have to disagree. This city is *fit*.

Also, Eeyore's Birthday. It's insane. It makes "Is Austin liberal?" arguments laughable. So... much... nakedness.

To my shame, I've been here for almost three years and never been to Eeyore's Birthday.

They celebrate Eeyore's birthday in Austin? As in the donkey from Winnie the Pooh, it's not code for something else?

That's pretty goddamn neat.

That about sums up the whole damn city.

No Paul, it reeks of jock. Which is the opposite of geek. Badass Digest sounds like something for meatheads, like it's a UFC news site, or a site which fetishizes military hardware. Or maybe just a site for dudes who have a thing for cellulite.

On the plus side, which more than balances out the goofy name, the content is already getting me hot and wet and I'm waaaaaaaaay further geographically than any of you other negative nellies from the Alamo Motherfucking Drafthouse. Even the layout's already growing on me.

(And for the record, as a dopey meathead myself, I enjoy MMA. I only make those comments to recognise, not to hate. I enjoy a sweaty, muscular gentleman pounding on another sweaty, muscular gentleman as much as the next meathead.)

My undying love of Pete notwithstanding, what the Sam Hill's wrong with a site that reports on cinematic happenings that are under development being called Cinematic Happenings Under Development?
CHUD is probably the best named site on the web. It has the four lettered power of Fuck, Cunt, Cock and Shit. It's one of the best filmic words ever invented. It's awesome.

It's also a reference to a pretty obscure movie (at least these days).

I forgive you for assuming I wouldn't know that Richard. I admit without pause that evidence of my intelligence and film knowledge is very hard to come by.

Just saying that to a good portion of people, CHUD is just as obscure and niche a reference as Badass Cinema is.
Yeah, but CHUD works two ways. The site acronym fills in the "layperson" as to the site's intentions. Then it winks at those "in the know" as to its origins. Quite effective.

Badass Cinema seems to wink way too much at those in the know whilst making an eye subtly twitch to newcomers.
"CHUD" is far more obscure and niche than "Badass" because "Badass" isn't even an obscure or niche reference. It's bandied about all over the place and has been part of mass culture lingo for years. The fact that the Alamo latched onto it doesn't make it somehow niche. I don't think a small operation like that, no matter how awesome (and they do seem pretty awesome), is about to appropriate and redefine a giant and widespread idea like badassness. But it'd be cool if I was wrong.

God, it's a freakin' name.

God can't save you now.

Good people... I have nothing but the deepest respect for many of who have posted here. But what you are doing at this point is this.

What's next?

Yes. It's a fine site. And I will bookmark it. Though I really wish they would use Helvetica or Coopersmith Bold rather than that provincial and vulgar font they have chosen.

Knock it off, basically, is what I'm saying.

Good thread, we're all happy for Devin. Now go back to populating the OTHER threads on this forum. Cool?

Nits are such a great source of protein though Erix. And they taste like cocoa butter.

Just sayin'.

I'm not going to slam the name (It doesn't really work, IMHO, but then again I thought iPad didn't exactly roll off the tongue either and now feel more than comfortable pronouncing that name out loud), but just wanted to point out that CHUD is an acronym meaning "Cinematic Happenings Under Development". You can choose to view it as a connection to a 1980s horror movie, or just look at it as another acronym. That is what gives CHUD it's broad appeal IMHO

I see some pimping of our movie, which will open in eight major markets and I see some Mondo articles, same as every other geek site, and where you can order stuff online. There are zero Alamo articles at the moment.

Relax. You're invited to the party. Come by and have fun. Stop posing like the outcast. We're for everybody.
Thanks for the invite, Devin I might check it out some day; I'd still be interested to read your Film Reviews at least.

You got it. I just wanted to respond to those points from a few days ago before I moved on with my life.
