Farrell is favorite for the Total Recall remake.

seriously: who the fuck asked for this? makes me want to punch a ten-year-old in the face.

Whether it makes sense or not, my rule with remakes is that if there is source material (like say, a novel), then that's not so bad, but that's with the caveat that said remake goes to the source and is not simply a riff on or weak xerox of the prior film (if you can't be original, be interesting). People often wonder what Cronenberg's take would have been, and I'm one of them, and the short story is way different than what we ended up with, so a new take by a new filmmaker could be interesting, but it probably won't be.

I would say that Total Recall is a lot better than you're making it out to be, but I can see how you could go about making a better version of it. But, with Wiseman in the driver's seat, deep-broiled ass is what will be served to the general public. I'm a person who loves Farrell, but not even his presence makes me feel this will be in any way good. Oh, and what the fuck's up with Farrell and remakes now (he's going to be in Fright Night also)?

If they do the story closer to the original screenplay (when Kevin Kline was attached to star...yeah, that would've been interesting) then I can see Colin working like gangbusters.

Nothing up with him, it's just the state of the industry. If he takes this I think it's a sign that he's probably ready to try to be a movie star again.

When the new filmaker is Len fuckin Wisemen then no, it probably won't be.

The only noteworthy news from this piece I'm taking away is I'm slowly beginning to see my two favourite young actors being featured at the top of casting lists.

This at least makes me happy.

Moritz, Wimmer and Wiseman? That's like a holy trinity of "meh".

Yeah, I get that, but it's really depressing all the same. At least he's working with Cronenberg soon on an adaptation of a Don DeLillo novel (if the project hasn't already been scrapped to finance a Flashdance remake or some shit).

There is simply no need to re-make the...Schwarzenegger/Verhoven classic.

Farrell starts shooting Cronenberg's Cosmopolis on the 4th of April. Financing has been secured and the producer says it's all ready to go. According to the THR article Total Recall starts shooting at the end of March so I can't see it happening, as a fan of Farrell's I hope it doesn't. He'd be an idiot to drop out of working with Cronenberg for Wiseman.

sorry, Recall doesn't get enough respect, it's a self contained, extremely well oiled machine that calls a spade a spade and doesn't pull any punches, which is rare for a film of that scale...the concept is silly and Verhoven milks it for all it's cheesy worth.

It might be interesting to hear Colin Farrell say get your ass to Mars in his native Irish accent, but I don't see the need to remake Total Recall.

Was Cassandra's Dream before or after he got himself cleaned up?

My feelings on this are a bit mixed. Not only is Farrell is one of the most talented people working in film today, he's one of my favorite actors. I am confident that in his bag of tricks he possesses all the actorly skills needed to make a compelling Quaid. With that said, I think where he'd excell would be in delivering an emotionally honest portrayal the mind bending emotional journey of someone who finds out their whole life is a lie. He'd need smart material and a patient and thoughtful director in order to let his layered take on the material work. Farrell is immensely charismatic, but usually he's not content to coast on it. I worry that if he took the material more seriously than the talent behind the camera, his work could come off looking sullen. This is often Christian Bale's problem, I suspect

With that in mind, given the fact that Len Wisemen is directing, I think that actually my first picks would be Hardy and Fassbender. I think they'd be more willing to try to steal the screen with charm alone, and Hardy especially I think could manage to be compelling and fun even in a rather pedestrian production

PS While I agree it would be hard to ever come close to topping TOTAL RECALL, the original story leaves alot of room to go in new/different directions with the material, and I'm always up for weird sci fi futurism so why not, right? As long as they choose a good actor, I'll at least get it out from REDBOX it's first week on DVD
