2010-11 NBA SEASON

Let's get it started.

Predictions? Who ya rooting for to come out on top?

I'm rooting for the Celtics, Hawks, Clippers, and Spurs. I like to think the Celtics have a legit shot at the title, but the Heat have to be the team to beat. Everybody is on the Lakers bandwagon, but I think the injury bug and fatigue makes them vulnerable.

(How awful was that ESPN season preview/round table discussion yesterday. I used to look up to Sports reporters as almost gods, so it was painful to listen to a bunch of professionals jabbering on and on when there wasn't a smart one in the bunch. No sense of history with those guys --I mean, Ric Bucher didn't even know/understand Oscar Robertson's legacy. Embarrassing. That's basic stuff)
Anyone but the Celtics and Heat.
Realistically:

I'm rooting for the Magic. Bulls should be fun to watch. I hope we see Carmelo go to NY. K-Dur in OKC.

That's about it. Go Mavs! Whooo. The league seriously needs to contract. Way too much dead weight.
I'm relieved the league is seriously considering contraction (every one of the big 4 leagues in america should) - good luck trying to get back 800 million in salaries/benefits though Stern.

Lakers will win again though part of me hopes the Heat embrace their NWO status and become the heels of the league. If they go up against LA in the finals the rest of the country can root for and pretend to like Kobe for once!

My predictions:

MVP: Durant
LVP: Dalembert
ROY: Cousins
Finals: Lakers over Celts in 6.
Is it bad that I more want the Magic to sweep the season series against Miami and win the division than I want them to win the title?
On the topic of contraction. I would get rid of one team from each division:

Eastern Conference

Atlantic: Raptors
Central: Bucks
Southeast: Bobcats

Western Conference

Southwest: Grizzlies
Northwest: Timberwolves
Pacific: Warriors or Clippers

That leaves 4 teams per division, 24 total (down from 30).

Controversal viewpoint: The Mavs are the most improved team in the West, and are deep enough to be a legit title contender and knock off the Lakers. Look for Caron Butler now that he's adjusted to blow up and have a great year within this system.
Really anyone but the Heat. I hate James for making me root for the Celtics and Lakers.

I want to see the Bulls step up to 50+wins. Boozer out for a while will hurt but they should be better.

I want to see Drant dominate. Thought they had a great chance against the Lakers last year.

They always find a way to lose. They will again.

Controversal viewpoint 2: The Blazers will be healthy, hungry, and ready for primetime. With chemistry clicking, they pass the Lakers and Suns, finishing with the second best record in the west and win the Northwest Division going away.

Controversial viewpoint 3: Blake Griffin will be a monster, Baron Davis a rejuvenated All-Star, and the Clippers will not only make the play-offs but knock off the Lakers in the first round. Go L.A.!
Keep them coming, this is hilarious.
I will be at the Heat/Sixers game on Wednesday. Look out Wade and the Lebronettes*, we have...Elton Brand!

*If the Heat are introduced to the NWO theme I will root for them all season to DESTROY the league.

Hahaha. Ha. Haha.

Noncontroversial point: the Mavs will be greatly improved if they manage to move JET before the trade deadline for a wing player with some length and toughness. Maybe that could even get them out of the first round this year.
I'm for the San Diego Clippers.

Actually, I'm a Heat fan. Just really not a fan of that gentleman who wears number 6.

Sorry bud, I'll never root for Kobe. In fact, what I'm rooting is David Stern to down a bottle of jack and say, "You know what, this is fucking stupid," and shut down the finals if it's LA vs Miami. I'd name my first born David Stern is Fucking Awesome if he did that.

Even thoughthere's a nice symmetry there, I'd be surprised if they got rid of 6 teams. I think Toronto and Charlotte in the East are no-brainers, as well as Memphis in the West. The question is: T-Wolves, Kings, Clippers, Hornets, and Warriors- who of that group should go?
Who should or who will? I'd say Kings are a likely candidate.

I would guess T-Wolves. They have no foundation in place, and the history is kinda pitiful.
The Bucks and Warriors have NBA titles in their history, it'd be kind of hard to contract them, don't you think?
I lived in Sacramento for a long time, so maybe my bias is showing, but it would be really regrettable in my mind if the Kings were contracted. Granted, given the stadium issues they're in danger of leaving anyway, so I get it. But those fans are so loyal. Just some of the best in the NBA.

They got a fancy new arena in Sacto though.

What do you guys think of Jame's new Nike commercial? Don Johnson cameo aside, it made me want to vomit. I already knew he was an asshole, but he almost must have the worst public relations team of any major superstar. There's gotta be a better way to stop the bleeding.

Yeah, that was a pretty big Fuck You to everyone.

I did like the Charles Barkley tweak though.
I liked it.
Yes, everything is going exactly according to plan. The Heat are getting the Celtics right... where... they... want them. Right?
Go Celts. Go Magic. I want the Heat to feel the pressure.
It's so early, but MIA looks to stand for Missing In Action, out of the gate...

He really needs to stop this. Either embrace your newly hated persona or apologize for the spectacle of The Decision. Shit like this isn't helping your cause.

I kinda want Miami to lose tonight just to hear what Skip Bayless says tomorrow morning.
So am I right reading the box score as Miami having turned into Cleveland South, as in everyone standing around watching Lebron score?
I guess it's gonna be 81-1 now, huh?

Great win for the Celtics. Felt like a play-off game. Had me worried for a bit, but they locked down the Heat and got a stop whenever it started to slip away. Props due to Paul Pierce and Shaqachusetts!

That was one of the worst games I've ever seen Wade play, but James led a nice comeback. Tonight it was embarrassing, but when they deveop an offensive gameplan they'll be a beast and a blast to watch, especially on the nights they can run.
Z's right. We were MIA tonight.

Wouldn't it be something to see what happens if, after all the hype, the Heat got off to a horrible start? I don't see it but it would be funny to see how the two best players in the game react presiding over a floundering experiment. I imagine Riley would jump in himself at the first sign of a slide.

Controversial viewpoint: Joe Johnson will earn his money, Josh Smith will step up, and the Hawks will finish with the third best record in the East.
Happy to see the Lakers won on their season opener, although I think the ring ceremony probably took too much emotions out of the players early on. The bench played great, and if it can continue to play like that, the starters can be rested more often, and become fresher in the playoff.

During the game my friends and I were saying this is the worst first half (the first quarter was abysmal) I've ever seen the Heat play, even during the 15 win season a few years ago. James, Wade and Bosh started 2-7, 2-7 and 1-7, with James and Wade each having three turnovers by the midpoint of the second quarter. I think they both missed their first 2 or 3 free throws as well. The fact that they even had a chance at the end was surprising to us.

Once they get settled down, and a few of our injured players can get back in the rotation they should start doing well. Losing Mike Miller was brutal.

It's probably to be expected when you give a high school buddy called Maverick the responsibility of overseeing your PR. I agree about the commercial - The Miami Vice bit was ace, and the ad as a whole is every bit as slickly made as you'd expect from Nike, but it's like another 'fuck you' to his supposed haters. At this stage, I'm genuinely unsure whether James is too stubborn and egocentric to admit that Decision 2010 was spectacularly misjudged, or whether he's simply oblivious to why people considered it distasteful.
I'm surprisd Nike let him diss Jordan in the commercial.

Nice win by the Cavs last night. Respect, Byron Scott.

What are people's predictions for the Knicks? The Carmelo rumors are still out there, but does anyone think that, barring a blockbuster deal along those lines, they'll miss the playoffs yet again?
I really hope the Knicks can pull the nose up this year, as a Heat fan who wishes he had a time machine to go back to the Heat-Knicks epics of the mid-90s, I would love see them be contenders again. I kind of want them to get Carmelo and Paul so it can be a battle of the Super Teams in the East.
So since Cavs beat Celtics, who in turn beat Heat, does that mean Cavs > Heat?

I would love to see Camelo in the big apple (Bernard King pt II), but until then it's mediocrity as usual. Don't think Raymond Felton is leading you anywhere.

Heat vs Magic tonight. I can't wait! C'mon, Howard, spoil the party.

Unquestionably. Which is why I'm a better drummer than Neil Pert because I can beat Tom Sawyer on expert in Rock Band and he failed out at 33%.

I'm already tired of the Heat.

The Celtics won an ugly one -let's just say it's a good thing the Knicks suck--but Rondo was something else.

Josh Smith is off to an impressive start for my Hawks. I wish Joe Johnson had his heart.

The Clippers? Painful.
Yeah, I know he's brought it upon himself, but it really saddens me to see AI exiled to Turkey. I bet he'd give anything to come off the bench for the Grizzlies now.

Screw him. I know the Grizz didn't have the greatest season last year, but they were much better without him, and as good as he once was, he's a douche. Go do shitty rap music elsewhere.
Now that's an interesting thought: an official Turkish release for Iverson's Jewelz album could provide a silver lining here.
The Hornets are 3-0, beating 3 playoff teams, with 0-3 Houston and then the Heat coming up. Chris Paul off to a great start and the team actually has athleticism under a new GM and new HC. I love what I'm seeing so far.
