Concept art for Green Lantern.

Is that some sort of GL graveyard? The spires have bodies in them.

That second pic though, wow. What I wouldn't give to see a Mosaic spin-off film on that planet.

That’s some fantastic imagery right there; I’m looking forward to this film more and more.

Oddly enough this concept art is the first time it really hit me that they're actually making a Green Lantern film. Still thinking it'll suck though.

I totally get where the designers' heads are on this: "It's alien so let's make it look alien." In spirit, I think it's a great idea.

In practice, I haven't been overly impressed with what I've seen from this film so far. But it's a big-budget sci-fi superhero movie, so I'm almost guaranteed to be in the theater at some point on opening weekend.

OK images I guess, but no where nearly interesting enough to get me to overcome my antipathy towards this project

The concept art of Oa, along with the Badass Digest article describing a brief visit to the GL set, have nearly erased all of my doubts. It looks like the filmmakers are really intent on going for a cosmic, large scale, super hero/ sci- fi movie.

The concept art just makes me go...OA, Wow! I cannot wait to see the first teaser/trailer. Green Lantern has always been one of my favorite DC superheroes.

Princess Kate, Why do you have no interest for this? Are you so tired of...Superhero Films, that you would pass on this first...intergalactic hero's film? All the previous Superhero films have been mostly...EARTHbound. I am biased though, as I love the emphasis on big budget superhero films that have appeared the last...12 years.

Mr Fleed,

It's a combination of a few factors.

1) General SH weariness
2) Ryan Reynolds
3) What I have read about GL does not really interest me that much

Growing up, I thought SH films were the coolest thing and I loved that Hollywood was finally embracing them. In the 10+ years it's been a trend (I'll give BLADE credit for being first), we've seen some good SH films, some great ones, and plenty of boring forgettable ones. I'd hate to say that the bad ones have killed my enjoyment of the good ones, but they have definitely effected my overall feelings towards the genre. These days, when I see hundreds of millions of dollars being sunk into a SH film that's not about one of my favorite heroes (SM, BM, CP*), instead of feeling like it's a daring and exciting choice for the studio to have financed it (like I felt with say, SPIDERMAN back in the day), it seems automatically trite, crass and unimaginative. It's not exactly fair to expect that Hollywood abandon such fare just because I've grown tired of it, but still, when discussing movies I'm representing a constituency of one. While I like that concept art and think it's good Hollywood is seeking out new settings for SH films, at this point I'm more interested in actual sci fi (like GRAVITY) than SH films with sci fi trappings and when you factor in Reynolds involvement, I have to say it's a film I am kind of rooting against. I have no clue if that's mature or reasonable or not, but it's the situation.

Hope that helps to clarify, Mr Fleed

Unfortunately I do not, Mr Fleed. I have regular cable, but I don't even watch that usually because the cable is in another room (which is currently very chilly) and I prefer to watch television from the comfort of my bed which means DVDs and videogames only. I've not seen CP in a few years actually, but I like to think I still retain my amateur Planeteer status

Why would anyone ever root against a film? Its not like is going to raise your taxes or anything.
I just need a trailer, that's all I need. A trailer so I can gauge the tone of this thing. If it looks like they've found a beat, a wavelength that intrigues me, then it'll possibly assauge my doubts a little bit.

Because a given film's success or failure can help influence the type of movies we'll see in the future. For instance: If Reynolds fails in his big budget starring role, perhaps we'll see less of him as a leading man going forward. IMHO, that would be a positive outcome.

It's not enough to say that "TRANSFORMERS is not for me". Why? Because the problem is that TRANSFORMERS making gobs of cash means that more movies like it (films based on toys) will be greenlit, and money that could be spent in other genres I find more interesting will instead get used for films that I do not enjoy

This is why I root for or against movies: box office is politics and I care about the future of cinema
