TROLL 2 was produced by Aristide Massaccesi a.k.a. Joe D'Amato a.k.a. David Hills for his company Filmirage. Massaccesi directed Gemser in many of the Emmanuelle movies, and the two were good friends (I've also read that they were married briefly).

I saw TROLL 2 the year it hit VHS (or generally thereabouts). My friends and I rented it as part of a weekly ritual of trying to find so-bad-it's-good (SBIG) cinema. It was a hit, yet it did not stand significantly higher in my social circle than many other amazing films we found. So it has been interesting to see the film rise up to PLAN 9 level fame in the past couple years - and BEST WORST MOVIE pretty much has sealed that deal. It's all part of the fairly random world of cult cinema. Gotta love it.

Does Troll 2 have any link whatsoever to Troll, or did it just assume the 'franchise' name to pull in fans of the original?

Assumed the name. No connection whatsoever. Which is too bad. The name "Harry Potter" could have become part of two film franchises.

Troll 2 is hilarious - with company, but does anyone find it really, really difficult to watch alone? I mean just to sit down for that 90min or whatever and just let it roll out over you? I do, because w/out a group of friends sitting around with me to laugh and take the piss out of it, it is tedious as all hell.

I picked up the Troll/Troll 2 MGM double feature dvd back in August, and while the first one was actually pretty good (The whole Harry Potter stuff is WAY too spruced in there to be a coincidence with the damn books) the second one is just out right terrible. I don't get the love for it, but maybe I just need to see it again, which probably won't happen anytime soon.

Laura Gemser was Joe D'Amato's go to girl for a long time in the Emanuelle movies. She wasn't married to him though, she was married to her frequent co-star in those movies, Gabriele Tinti.

Ah, thought as much. I've avoided Troll 2 not because it's notoriously bad, but because it didn't seem to have anything to do with the original. Which I always thought was likeable enough in the same way as, say, House or The Gate.

Just did a double feature with this and Troll 1 a few months ago. First time I actually enjoyed one of those 2-sided DVDs. Anyways, a cool so good it's bad movie. Just enough weirdness to be inexplicably driven by something not quality.

Yes, but I read somewhere that she picked up with D'Amato after Tinti passed away. I didn't really believe it either, and can't find a legit source at the moment.

This trailer mash-up done with Troll 2 made to look like an acclaimed indie film is unbelievable.

For some reason in the early and mid nineties, TROLL 2 was broadcast enough on HBO and Cinemax to be memorable. I remember walking into a video store and picking up the box while thinking, "Hey! I saw this on TV!" I always wondered why the kid on the VHS was different and why there wasn't a huge axe wielding troll in the movie. It was a strange one but I do like how I wasn't too put off later on when I got exposed to Fulci, Bava and Argento films later on. TROLL 2 kinda helped me enjoy a solid niche in genre films.

Edit: There's a hilarious RiffTrax available for TROLL 2 featuring Mike Nelson. I still need to see Best Worst Movie in a live setting.

I watched this by myself over the weekend for the first time, and I was alternately laughing and slack-jawed throughout.

Didn't really like 1 enough to want to watch part 2. Funny thing though, the other day I saw a Meg Whitman TV ad where she was talking directly to the camera and for some reason all I could think of was that freaky pet mushroom thing from the first movie.

The vibe I'm getting from TROLL 2 (revisiting after years) is... the script is obviously written by someone who doesn't speak very good English, or that the script was translated from Italian to English and shot with awkward translation flaws in tact. It borders on "Engrish subtitles spoken aloud" occasionally, adding to the surreality of the proceedings. Because it's spoken by American actors, the terrible story still communicates mostly, but with more than a bit of awkwardness. The "actors" aren't skilled enough to make the weird lines natural, either in slight adjustment or in inflection. If this were shot in Italian with Italian actors, it wouldn't come across as memorably atrocious IMO.

Just an observation. And I'm a fan of the first from since childhood. I remember being excited about seeing the sequel and then my brother and I were so disappointed when we discovered its lack of continuity or quality from Part 1. Since then, I've learned to appreciate (like other movies thanks to MST3K) its "so bad it's awesome" status.

BEST WORSE MOVIE is on deck for tonight!
