"The Shaming of America" - Page 7

Of course there is. With ElCapitan, however, it's all tension, all the time. Have I missed a rash of posts where you WEREN'T scaremongering or calling for common sense and decency to stop these leaks, ElCap?

Once again, I'm totally against them releasing diplomatic cables that don't uncover any illegal activity. And I've been highlighting those, because I think its fairly irresponsible and dangerous.

But I've said it before, things like what they did with the helicopter video, in my view is fair game and justified.

That's fine. But who determines what's illegal? The country whose citizens are releasing the documents? The country the documents are about? The International court?

One worthy candidate is Morgan Tsvangirai, Zimbabwe's long-time opposition leader and now its powerless Prime Minister. Yesterday, the Associated Press reported that Zimbabwe Attorney General Johannes Tomana, a loyalist to despot Robert Mugabe, has assembled an "expert panel" to review 3,000 U.S. diplomatic cables published by WikiLeaks for evidence that Mr. Tsvangirai committed treason. "Treason," AP adds, "carries a possible death sentence in Zimbabwe."

Hopefully the US offers the guy some sort of asylum.

In unrelated leak news, there's this. The minutes from the 2008-9 Palestinian/Israeli talks leaked and boy do they paint the Israelis in a bad light. The Palestinians are giving them almost everything they ask and they still aren't committing. They objectively do not want this to ever be politically resolved, it seems. Can someone remind me why the West has spent literally all its political capital with the Arab world in order to push for Israel's interests? This is pissing me off.

This thread seems to have died down. I'll try raising it again.

Wikileaks: US afraid that Saudi Arabia overstated their crude oil reserve by up to 40%. Ooops. This is going to be fun.

Our world operating under an actual peak oil scenario, with a visible end point of literally not having enough oil is a recipe for disaster in an unprecedented scale. In such a scenario Canada and Venezuela suddenly jump way up high in the REALLY REALLY SUPER IMPORTANT COUNTRIES list. And while for Canada this is all positive, Venezuela having the world's second biggest crude oil reserve is painting a huge target on their backs.

The quotes based on someone with dated knowledge.  Its not that Saudia Arabia has found new oil fields, but theres been a massive leap in oil and gas capturing technologies in the last three years.  Thats why every major oil producing country has upped their oil reserve estimates over the last few years.

America has gone from having to import natural gas, to now having a surplus, and is now looking to become an exporter.  And this all happened in the last few years.

Thats not to say the figures aren't inflated somewhat, but a lot of these diplomatic cables aren't necessarily accurate since its all hearesay.
