Randy Quaid on the run from "Hollywood star whackers"

You literally could not make this shit up. Does Quaid have a massive drug problem I never knew about? Is he undiagnosed bipolar? Seriously - what the fuck?

In a rambling presentation at an immigration hearing, Evi Quaid said eight of her husband's acting friends had been murdered in recent years and they feared he would be next.

"We feel our lives are in danger," she told the Immigration and Refugee Board hearing.

Their attorney, Brian Tsuji, later read a note from the couple to reporters. "Yes, we are seeking asylum from Hollywood star whackers."

Randy Quaid, 60, complained he had been persecuted for 20 years. He appeared in such films as The Last Picture Show, The Last Detail, and Brokeback Mountain, and is the brother of actor Dennis Quaid.

Over border officials' objections, the couple were freed on $C10,000 cash bond until another hearing next Thursday. The Quaids, who said they needed to prepare their case and care for their puppy, hugged when the decision was announced.

The couple came to Canada on Sunday. The next day, a California judge issued an arrest warrant for them after they failed to appear at a mandatory court hearing on charges they had been illegally squatting in a home they owned years ago.

The couple said they came to Canada to relax, and were talking with an attorney in Vancouver about immigrating to Canada when they learned the warrant had been issued.

The couple denied the allegations and had to be reminded by the immigration hearing official the house dispute was not relevant to the detention hearing.

Randy Quaid was arrested in September on suspicion of burglary and entering a building without consent. Evi Quaid was booked on those charges, as well as resisting arrest.

Earlier this year, they were arrested on charges of failing to pay their bill at a California hotel. Evi Quaid was forced to pay $US10,500 in restitution in that case and she pleaded no contest to defrauding an innkeeper.

I had to write this story up in a journalism school exercise the other day. So weird. They were arrested pretty close to my house, actually...

Where's Dennis in all this? He needs to step in and inject some grumpy sanity into these bizarro proceedings! Preferably in his GI JOE costume.

Right off the bat, I want to say I have nothing to do with this. I'm a New Jersey star Wacker.

Also, this is a shame. Though I have to say I do glean a small bit of morbid enjoyment from the craziness of Hollywood types.

I know someone who tried it, and that's exactly what he said (in conjunction with a stern admonishment never to try it). Could it actually make Mr Quaid believe that stuff about star wackers though? It said he was on vaca in CA, and just came up with the wacking stuff once he learned he was under arrest.

It sounds like an ill conceived excuse, not a genuine delusion

Anyone else kind of interested in the list of killed compatriots? Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean people are not out to get you.

ETA: Could Rubicon do a season of who is trying to kill Randy Quaid?

Great interview/article about this in Vanity Fair. I'm coming away from it feeling pretty bad for Randy, because his wife is a crazy bitch! Good god...be sure to remember to close your mouth every so often while reading this.

Apparently there's a "deflate" tool I haven't found yet. Maybe it's just in the CS5 version?
