Secret Iraq - A Must Watch

This just played recently on Australian television and I found it utterly riveting. It's a BBC documentary in two parts that looks back at the Iraq Conflict from the point of view of not just the US or even UK forces but also the Iraqis, both insurgents and civilians. Certain moments in the conflicts history that have never been discussed are outlined, with many people going on the record for the first time.

Essentially this truly is a must watch for anyone that wants to look at the last 7 years with something akin to historical perspective.

The first episode is Secret Iraq: Insurgency (part one of that episode)

The second is Secret Iraq: Awakening (part one of this)

Again - really worth watching

I've watched some of the first episode. It clearly identifies the US screw ups. Nothing I haven't read elsewhere - especially from 'Imperial Life in the Emerald city' - but very interesting nonetheless.

It does re-write some history though. The narrator states that "All over Iraq the coalition was seen as occupiers, not liberators". This is untrue. The southern part of Iraq, especially around Basra, was extremly glad to see the back of Saddam. As where the Kurds. They were even some parts of Baghdad. Of course they bungled the post-war situation, which understandably turned a lot of people against them.

It sounds very interesting. I'll check it out when I'm in the mood. These sorts of things always depress me.
