The score is available on Spotify now, for those interested.  I really wish it included the music from the trailer that debuted as a Nokia exclusive.

A LOT of people are wishing for that. As far as folks seem to be able to tell, that was a mix made specifically for the trailer. Trailer music is rarely officially released, so don't hold your breath.

The score is pretty damn great, if you like that sort of thing. I do!

By the time people woke up and tried to get seats in the morning, it was too late so I imagine the rest of the week soon followed suit (vaguely recall someone the other day saying the first few weeks are all gone now bar a few bad seats for the matinees or something). It's all rather mental.

Thankfully, my insomniac ways ensured I did manage to grab tickets for Friday night but damn, the Tube will be closed by the time it finishes - the dreaded Night Buses await...

Brother-in-law booked them about ten days ago and could only get two tickets for the 5.50pm show on Tues 24. Luckily he's "between jobs" and I work long enough hours to occasionally head off early. Pretty sure this is my first IMAX experience. Hope there aren't any "bad" seats.

My review is relatively spoiler-free, though I assume you've watched trailers and stuff. I mark the two paragraphs the finicky might want to avoid.

Boiled down: I'm left feeling very satisfied, if not exhilarated.

Nice review - and thank you for signalling the spoiler-ish bits.

Good review Renn, I'll be sure to revisit this for a bit more of that sweet sweet retrospective context.

Wow, Renn. That is one fantastic review. Seriously, it's easily one of the best I've read.

One thing I'm reading consistently is that TDKR does not share TDK's constantly ratcheting sense of tension and dread. That's a good expectation to adjust.

Very stoked for tonight's viewing.

Harry Knowles didn't like it.

So it must be good.

Cover it in chocolate and free travel arrangements and he will.

Oh, there are plenty of bad seats. The very back couple of rows are the only acceptable seats. Anything closer, even the middle, and the screen is wider than your peripheral vision.

Went to the Providence RI mall to try to get IMAX tickets Wednesday morning. I figured, its Providence, no big deal. Wrong. Only the first 2 shows of Friday had any seats, and they were all in the first few rows, where the screen is physically impossible to see properly. Fuck that. I got an 11:30 ticket for the regular (but still good) screen. I guess I'll have to wait for a Cheap Tuesday (couple bucks discount all day) for the IMAX. None of my friends are available to see it Friday, so that's alright. Hopefully it still kicks ass 2nd viewing when I get the full 70mm glory.

Off to a family obligation, then I'm going to be a huge nerd and get in line way early for the midnight screening. See you all in the post-release thread.

Okay, just got done reading Harry's review at AICN, and what a ass clown.  I have no problem with people disliking a film I like, everyone has their own opinions.  But to end his review with

if you did love the film – if you think this just kicked everything you’ve seen this year away.   I beg you, go to a comic shop, buy some BATMAN comics…   Order the BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES…   Play ARKHAM ASYLUM.

Because Harry KNOWS who Batman is better then ANYONE else, and if you liked TDKR, then you obviously don't know as much about the character as him.

Dammit. Well, at least I'll get to see it twice. Now my better half is badgering me to get tickets.

To be fair, I think the view that this interpretation of Batman veers away from the established mythos is pretty pervasive - Tim emphasised it in his review. Subjectivity is the preserve of film critics - isn't it? - so to feel strongly that the departure was inferior to the predominant interpretation of the character isn't invalid in itself. That said, I haven't read too far into the review because I suspect in classic Harry fashion he'll be peppering his comments with spoilers I don't want to read.

Knowles is a greedy fat stupid illiterate child who no doubt wrote that "review" because Nolan shunned his fat ass and didn't send him any pwesants, freebies or advanced screenings his way. In comparison, Warner Bros. sent lardass a Green Lantern ring, which he posted himself wearing in a picture last year, and he gave that piece of shit movie a blowjob. He's a disgusting corpulent mongoloid and everything wrong with not just fandom but the USA itself.

Furthermore, Fatshitfuck rants about how "Batman NEVER stops being Batman!" except for when he did stop for a decade in Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns. You can tell Wideload was pissed at not getting any free swag because he didn't go into some delusional fantasy version of his childhood and how it related to the movie.

But we DO say "oh look, it's Creepy Thin Man again". Quite often, in fact.

Holy shit, what has happened in Denver?  Nolan's Batman films have been so ridiculously controversial and divisive, but this is crazy.  Does this have anything to do with the recent republican 'Bain' stuff I wonder?

I only read he was wearing a gas mask. Although, I would concede that Venom inhalators are probably harder to come by.

Too soon?

Oh my god that's horrible.  Please tell me that jackass wasn't dressed as Bane for the love of god.

EDIT: I can't stress enough how fucking disgusted I am.

Nothing has been confirmed that he was dressed as Bane - just that he was wearing a gas-mask, and seeing how he set off a gas canister I'd say it was pretty obvious why he was wearing that.

Lets not try and jump to any conclusions at the moment eh?

Sorry- sensationalist tabloid reporting over here in the UK, which now appears to have been hastily withdrawn.

The fact that a baby was at a midnight screening of a Batman movie, and then subsequently shot at point blank range is so fucked up.

edit: 'eyewitness account' anyway.

Ok, I read this too, and here's my opinion on the whole thing.  He has one valid bitch.  Batman would not give up for that reason.  I understand Dark Knight Returns which was essentially an elseworlds story, but we also had Death in the Family in regular continuity and watched Batman/Wayne get over a devastating act.  It wasn't pretty, and he became a beast.  He never hung up the mantle.

Everything else in that review after that complaint is bullshit.  This was not Rocky.  This never tried to be a Stallone film.  Bane made a great villain.  Catwoman is done purrrrfectly, and more true to the comics that any of the previous renditions.

And the shit about owning the comics..... I own nearly 4200 BATMAN comics.  That's my collection, about 150 Clive Barker comics, the Malibu Ultraverse (a bad investment but I have them all), a Hulk 181 and a Spiderman 300, and then 15 additional long boxes filled with nothing but Batman.    So Harry un-KNow-les can takes his bought and paid for ass and bitch about something else.

I don't think this was the best movie ever made, but while not as deep as The Dark Knight, it actually plays a little more fun.

Someone ban this douchebag again, please.

Jesus, what a ghastly thing for — well, for anyone to wake up to, but also Nolan and the cast. They must be sick at heart to hear this, when they were probably just expecting to hear about really good midnight-screening numbers. Nobody sane is going to say the movie is responsible for this (though I'm seeing a disconcerting number of "Batman movie shooting" headlines*, as if what movie it was is relevant other than perhaps the psycho strategically planning to go off at the biggest packed blockbuster of the summer), but it can't not affect the cast and crew. Pales before the pain of the friends and family of those killed and injured, of course.

*The NYT, in contrast, is running "Police Say 14 Are Killed in Shooting at Colorado Mall."

I disagree. Knowles is a fucking moron who only see's the Batman of the comics. The one who's been fighting bad guys for over 70 years. He doesn't seem to get that this is a finite Batman who is actually mortal and who can't battle crime forever. At the end of TDK and the beginning of TDKR, Law and Order has been restored. Batman has served his purpose. The Bruce Wayne of Nolan's Batman isn't someone endlessly beating the shit out of criminals to satisfy his sense of vengeance over the murder of his parents. Because that's what Batman is, in the comics, which is why he never knew who killed his parents and that's what drives him. Nolan's Wayne is someone who understands that he's flesh and blood which is why his goal had always been to inspire people to stand up to the crime and corruption. He unfortunately had the effect of making things worse with The Joker but in the end it balanced itself out. So why wouldn't he stop?

Why are you even here? Serious question. You're the Senor Chang of the CHUD boards - desperate to be a part of the group, but so psychotically devoted to being an abusive shitstain that you'll never, ever be accepted. We don't want you in our air ducts; please go away.
