The Playstation Phone

I want one now.

It's hard to believe that what we're looking at is real -- but we assure you, the picture above is in fact the PlayStation Phone you've long been waiting for. As we reported back in August, the device you see is headed into the market soon, likely boasting Android 3.0 (aka Gingerbread), along with a custom Sony Marketplace which will allow you to purchase and download games designed for the new platform. The device snapped up top (and in our gallery below) is sporting a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 (a chip similar to the one found in the G2, but 200MHz faster), 512MB of RAM, 1GB of ROM, and the screen is in the range of 3.7 to 4.1 inches.

Yeah, it gives me an Android phone to wait for. I've actually been quite happy with my Sony Ericsson dumb-phone I've had for a while but keep looking for a decent phone to upgrade to.

The only real issue I see here is that this phone will probably be difficult to hack/root.

Ooh, a multi-touch touchpad instead of an analog nipplestick. I like that. What's the deal with the two symmetrical nubs on either side of the pad?
I was under the impression that the nubs were actually like optical trackball things. Kind of like the button on the newer Blackberries.

THIS will convince me I need an Android.

I do wonder how the battery life situation will pan out. I barely get a day out of my current Android, and that's without using it for gaming.

Also, there's still a lot of Is it fake/Isn't it fake stuff going on. Sony put out a "definitely fake" declaration, only to semi-retract it a few minutes later. It's probably just corporate hemming and hawing over seeing this out early, but worth noting.

Sony's the kind of company that would leak this thing early just to gauge public response anyway. Especially considering nobody wanted the PSP Go, its probably the smart move.
