If you're unfamiliar, 'Earth One' is DC's equivalent to Marvel's Ultimate line - continuity-free reboots.
It had some cool ideas, but much I didn't like.
- I never like the idea of Mom sewing the costume. It should just have come premade in the rocket - an example of Kryptonian garb.
- I don't like the idea of the Kents designing the insignia either. I always liked the idea that the 'S' was the Kryptonian symbol of his family or house, and it just happened to look like our letter 'S'.
- Deciding to call yourself 'Superman', instead of letting others do it, is arrogant, no matter how appropriate it may be.
- In my mind, Superman is fixed at around age 30. A Superman in his early twenties just seemed too youthful to me.
- He would never be forgiven for the alien invasion, no matter that it wasn't his fault. Remember all the rage and violence against foreigners and Muslims after 9/11 - even though they had nothing to do with the attack? It would be like that x 10.
- The villain looked ridiculous - like someone who wanted to be the Crow for Halloween and screwed it up.
- His motivation didn't make sense either. All that time and effort spent on a single Kryptonian who got away? Their planet has no better use for all those people and resources?
DC is planning a 'Batman: Earth One" for next year. Hope that goes better.
