Superman: Earth One (spoilers)

If you're unfamiliar, 'Earth One' is DC's equivalent to Marvel's Ultimate line - continuity-free reboots.

It had some cool ideas, but much I didn't like.

- I never like the idea of Mom sewing the costume. It should just have come premade in the rocket - an example of Kryptonian garb.

- I don't like the idea of the Kents designing the insignia either. I always liked the idea that the 'S' was the Kryptonian symbol of his family or house, and it just happened to look like our letter 'S'.

- Deciding to call yourself 'Superman', instead of letting others do it, is arrogant, no matter how appropriate it may be.

- In my mind, Superman is fixed at around age 30. A Superman in his early twenties just seemed too youthful to me.

- He would never be forgiven for the alien invasion, no matter that it wasn't his fault. Remember all the rage and violence against foreigners and Muslims after 9/11 - even though they had nothing to do with the attack? It would be like that x 10.

- The villain looked ridiculous - like someone who wanted to be the Crow for Halloween and screwed it up.

- His motivation didn't make sense either. All that time and effort spent on a single Kryptonian who got away? Their planet has no better use for all those people and resources?

DC is planning a 'Batman: Earth One" for next year. Hope that goes better.

So I guess they abandoned the All-Star line? No surprise, so many of the big names these days are completey unreliable when it comes to meeting a deadline.

I saw the concept art for Batman: Earth One, I can't wait to not read it.

Other than All-Star Superman what other All-Star lines are good?

Other than AS Batman, and AS Superman, there haven't been any, as far as I know.

AS Superman is one of the greatest comics you'll ever read; AS Batman is junk written by a once-great creator who has lost his mind. I submit AS Batman, The DK Strikes Again, and The Spirit film as evidence.

Motion granted. Excessive force against Frank Miller has been approved.

Wasn't the initial point of the 'Earth One' line that they're releasing them as full graphic novels directly to book stores (Borders, Barnes & Noble, etc) instead of as singles and then collections? The All Star line is for one-and-done continuity free stories released as singles and then collected. And I've heard Morrison wants to do an 'All Star Wonder Woman,' or something very much like it, at some point in the future.

I didn't think it really brought anything new or interesting to the Superman mythos. I certainly don't see it as something someone who has never been exposed to Superman can pick up and find compelling. Birthright was far more interesting.
