I'm a frequenter of the site, but I'm new to the boards! I gathered that Renn's a film guy, but anybody else shoot/edit/write/whatever stuff?

What do you guys work with? Cool experiences you wanna share?

I fiddle around a bit in my free time (when I have some). You might have better luck here:

I'll bite, it's been awhile since we've had a good film thread here.

I graduated Vancouver Film School in 2006 and since then I've been working in post-production for various local companies that do mostly Canadian reality TV and a few American programs.

It's been an interesting ride to say the least, the last show I worked on was Animal Hoarders and it was all night shifts. Nothing like watching footage of maggot covered kitten corpses at 3am... I've been mostly involved in tape logging and assistant story editing but I'm hoping to become a full fledged editor, in film school I edited at every possible opportunity (we used Avid) and I spent a lot of time cutting webisodes on Final Cut Pro for a show for a small production company awhile back.

I do work on short films on my own but work keeps me busy so I haven't done as much as I would like. In high school when I had no clue what I was doing and nothing but some eager friends and a crappy camcorder I had a huge amount of fun making improv films that usually involved vampires or radioactive monsters with no budget or story and buckets of fake blood. It was ridiculous but sometimes what we made would end up being funny and we learned what we were doing as we went along, I miss that sort of spontaneity and freedom.

About a year ago I made a short film with a good friend of mine involving puppets that recreated that experience. It was just for fun and we had no money or real equipment but it was refreshing. We built a little papier mache set and shot it with a Sony Handycam, using lights we got from the hardware store, and we edited it with fucking Windows Movie Maker! It was pretty hilarious, trying to use WMM after Avid or Final Cut is like doing surgery with a battle axe when you need a scalpel. It was nice to step away from the world of making 'real' movies and just goof around.

Besides that the only thing I've done recently is art direct a short another friend from film school did a few months ago. I hadn't art directed in ages and it was never my favourite job to begin with but it was a story about suicidal amputees falling in love so I couldn't resist. Besides the maddening search for costumes and props and set dec I also did continuity, which I've always enjoyed because you get to sit there with your stop watch in a prime viewing area and time every take, much more interesting than hovering around the craft service table waiting until they need you to lint roller a costume while they set up the next shot.

I do also write and I have a couple scripts on the backburner but I don't write enough! At this point I'm just the Queen of procrastination and I need to get my ass into gear.

Get writing, WG!

I have a production company for which I edit and direct occasionally. We make primarily TV commercials. This is the website, if you're interested http://humanoid.co.za/

On my own, I've directed a fair amount of music videos and am currently finishing up a script for a short film.

As far as what I work with, it's mostly been film, 16mm and 35mm but I've worked with a few digital formats recently including the RED and the 5D. I vastly prefer the look of film but with the right DP and lenses digital can look amazing. I'll probably have to shoot the short on digital due to money constraints.

I've directed 2 shorts and a TV pilot that's still in post and seems destined to stay there. I'm currently writing another short script. I spent '08-'09 studying for a diploma and associate degree in digital film and television, the knowledge was worth it.

I work in film & tv production down here in NOLA primarily in the production office. I want to break into the creative side, so I write a lot hoping to come up with something halfway decent to pitch to people.

Currently working as the Office PA for an MTV Movie of the Week right now called Worst. Prom. Ever. It is not a great gig, but it pays the bills.

There is nothing else I want to do except work in production.

I post a lot in the Budding Filmmaker forum.

I'm a film student at Temple University. I like to do a bit of everything, but I consider myself a screenwriter. I swear that my scripts are better written than my posts here. I'm moving to LA for a while in January to do some internships and then I'll be back here next year to do my big senior year capstone project, whatever that may be.

I'm really big into writing, as well. I put together a production company, and we're putting together a web series as soon as we get more funds together.

We have a pretty great DSLR set up, the Canon 7D is kind of a marvel.

Nice thing about the time we live in is that you can be a hobbyist filmmaker. That's where I am. I'm working on a couple scripts for a couple shorts, to be filmed next summer. Should be fun.
