NaNoWriMo 2010

Anyone giving it a go this year? Closest I've gotten to finishing was 9,000 words of pseudo-Douglas Adams nonsense a couple of years ago, but I really want to hit the mark this time around.

I'm in. Figure I'm already working on the follow-up to my first (unpublished) novel, so I might as well put it to some good use.

I'm in. Using it as a motivator to finish that children's book I started earlier this year. Even if it ends up not being 50k words (it is a chapter book so ya never know) at least it'll be finished finally.

I'm in. Although 50,000 words in a month seems a bit daunting, I've calculated that to achieve the final goal, about 3 pages at 11 point font size must be written every day for 30 days. That average seems more doable.

50,000 is a scary number in this case.

Oh, what the hell. Again.

It's 1,667 words a day. I probably did that during the 90s draft.

That's true, and the "three pages, 11 point font" makes me think even with my hellish month that is November, I can find the time to do that.

Yep. It corresponds to about 2 1/2 to 3 pages a day. I'm being a bit redundant, but oh, well...

Do you guys have outlines ready or will you approach it as a free writing exercise?

I'm thinking of breaking one of their rules and doing a series of interconnected short stories, which I will outline the basic beats of probably tonight.

I've got some ideas that may or may not emerge when I'm staring at the blank Word document.
I've got mine started, and have a chapter and a half done already, so at least there is that.

I just signed up. I'm going to try to adapt one of my short stories. I have a lot on my plate right now so I'm not hopeful, but it should be a fun diversion at the very least.

Really hope they get he site up and running soon. I kicked off the month with 15 and a half pages and nearly 4400 words, and I'd like to enter that into my official word count.

So how is everybody doing so far? I've managed to write a little bit every day this month, and I'm actually about one day ahead of schedule.

I'm at 8003 words, and so far, I'm pretty happy with the result. Gonna need a couple more drafts, but for just throwing it all up on the page, it could be a lot worse (in my humble opinion, of course).

Anybody else still plugging away at this?

I stand at 3610, thanks to some computer issues last night that seriously threw me off pace. Gonna try to get back on track and really bear down over the weekend to catch up.

I don't even know what I have, but it's low. I'm going to try to get a couple thousand done over the weekend. I'll be happy if I get 25,000 over the course of the month.

Two of my kids were so engaged with my successful completion last year that they're doing the Junior NaNo this year. I couldn't be fucking happier.

I decided on Monday that I'd just give it a shot even though I had specifically intended NOT to do it for 2010; I've got so much on my plate that it's insane. Wrote Monday and wrote Tuesday, but by Wednesday I came to my senses and gave up. Not only am I way too busy, I also had no plan and I am someone who very much relies on outlining. What popped into my head was really not very interesting to me, and I just don't have the discipline to fit a burden like Nanowrimo into a schedule this full when I don't even give a shit about the story.

Having 'won' last year, I really don't know if there's as much value in continuing to do it versus working on some of my weaknesses, such as sticking with the editing phase. I stalled on editing my '09 book, which I actually quite like and think that if I cleaned it up it'd be a fun read for people.

Anyway, good luck to all '10 writers.

Broke 7,500 words last night. Not as productive a weekend day as I would have liked, but had the wife home all day and a party to attend in the evening. But I like where I'm going.

I'm at a little over 11,000 right now, though I'm not very happy with the last chapter I wrote. I'm going to keep it for now, but I have some better ideas for it that I'm going to explore later tonight.

Crossed 11,000 words myself tonight.
Cool! I'm at about 14,500, I think. I don't have a lot of time during the week, so I have to just hit it hard on the weekends.

Yeah, I'd be further ahead, but the fan on my video card crapped out on Sunday and it kept overheating and shutting my PC down. Lost most of my planned writing time taking care of that.
