CARPENTER BUILDS A DARKCHYLDE

John Carpenter to direct late 90's comic adaptation.

I've no real knowledge of this property, but the concept and Carpenter's involvement have me more than interested. The poster's nicely designed (very comic style, fittingly) but a bit on the cheap side. Cool font and tone, though.

Fans of the property/those in the know, will this be a darker, more substantial version of Sucker Punch? Or, at least, a companion piece kinda thing?

My article would have been this:

John Carpenter continues fucking up.

Darkchylde is fucking garbage. Dammit, Crapenter, why do you keep doing this to me?

Ha! The sole reason this comic is remembered at all is because it came out smack-dab in the middle of the "bad-girl" speculative market in the 90's. It's one of those books that made you question the stability of the people who subscribed to it (or... God help them... bought statues and prints and variant action figures and shit like that). Although in its defense, child is spelled chylde. So that's pretty fucking metal right there.

Just excited that he's wanting to make and is making movies again.

Hope he casts Kurt Russell as Darkchylde.
I wish I could pretend to be excited for this, but as much as I love THING ETC, Carpenter has not really made a worthwhile movie within my adult life time. I tried GHOSTS OF MARS last year, and couldn't even finish it.

The poster and tag line for this one are LOL worthy, and even the promise of WETA effects don't do much to interest me

He's doing a movie based on a 90s boob comic that was popular for about two minutes.
Anything but this JC!
I hope this falls through like most of the other projects he's been attached to for the last 9 years. Carpenter really needs to do another movie with Russell before they both get too old.

Silver lining: since almost no one cares about the original property maybe Carpenter could just do something totally unfaithful and crazy with it?

Not holding my breath or anything, of course.

Awesome.

Fuck it, I don't care. Make that money JC!

I get the feeling Carpenter must want to add a new room onto his house or something.
I remember seeing Weta conceptual stuff for this a year or 2 back. EDIT: or 3... More from July...

If nothing else the spelling of chylde pisses me off.

Sexy!

I remember persistent rumors in the 90's where Sarah Michelle Geller would be starring in this.

John Carpenter raped my childhood.

Those two desperately need to do a gritty western together before they retire.

Random: I was talking to Randy Queen on Saturday night at the New Beverly, and I had no idea who he was (never saw this comic before). At the end of our discussion (which was about Halloween III, screening that night), he said: "Check the papers tomorrow for a big announcement." It seemed an odd thing to say to someone you'd just met, and I was completely confused. NOW I get it...

I've never read a single issue of "Darkchylde", but to the people that have: Is the material really that bad? A woman who sheds her skin and becomes different creatures from the director of "The Thing" would be a perfect return to form. Drag Bottin's ass out of semi-retirement and go prosthetic/latex nuts. Even if the comic sucks, isn't the idea a good enough jumping off point?

It's probably just extreme wishful thinking. I'd just love for Carpenter to start giving a shit, and putting effort and passion back into his films, and this sounds more interesting than "The Ward".

We'll, it was as classy as a comic can be:

hell, if i remember it right, the character's powers manifested first during a molestation incident.

The source material is really bad. Almost anything can sound great conceptually, but if the execution isn't there, then you get something like Darkchylde or Witchblade.

Carpenter is the director of The Thing, yes, but as much as it pains me to say, that guy is gone.

Still have faith in Carpenter, but I don't remember much about the character, and the tagline on that poster sounds like a rejected tagline for a Nightmare On Elm Street Sequel.
I know Carpenter's resting on his laurels now. But after giving us so many great films over the years, I think he's entitled to do so.
I'd love for Carpenter and Russell to team up one last time but I don't think either has any more kids playing hockey. What would they talk about? There's no incentive for them to get back together.

This would be depressing news if I thought that Carpenter was squandering his talent, but I think he blew his talent load long ago.
Yeah I'd love for Carpenter to take the basic idea and do something really interesting with it (source material does not = the film adaptation!) but recent (15 year) history says it'll be crap.

But d00d she's got this tattoo on her ankle and shit! Wicked!
