Demi Lovato beats Miley to rehab.

Disney teen queen in a "treatment center". They say it's not for drugs, and there were pics I remember seeing a while back where she had marks on her arms that looked like cutting. Her people said they were marks from too-tight bracelets. Sure.

Requisite ".....who?" post.

That's a shame, I really like her. One of the few legitimately talented people in the Disney lineup.

Yeah, they might be lying about it not being drug-related, but she does have a history of cutting and eating disorders. She's always been the truly messed up one of the Disney girls, so I kind of have a soft spot for her.

Don't be so hard on yourself. If you had kids, you'd know, but otherwise, all the "talent" churned out by the Disney machine tends to look/sound/digest pretty homogeneously.

I think it's from The Wall.

It is. That's my opinion on how Disney is handling children's careers.

I thought you were being a prognosticator. Tweens following suit...

I'm not familiar with this individual, but self harm is a classic cry for help and it's tragic that Disney has an entire team of spin artists dedicated to muffling that cry. Too tight bracelets? That isn't even remotely believable.

That's right. It's kids being marched into a meat grinder, specifically.

Roger Waters designed the set piece to criticize the British public education system, but the symbolism works just as well here. Andres hits the nail on the head.

Link to the clip from the movie, sausage making imagery is at 4:00 minutes in.

I'd probably cut myself too if I butchered the Star Spangled Banner as badly as she did...

Careful Greg or Rath will come in here railing about what an out of touch old man you are for not being up on your tween Disney pop princesses.

...seriously tho - who?

Malloy just got put on a list for that post. Unless you're 14 or so, Malloy, that is really odd. Harley's a close second. Jeremy has a kid, so he's got an excuse.
I'm far more appalled that people didn't know the pic was from THE WALL than them not knowing who Disney's prefab small screen starlet of the week is.

Ditto. A bit depressing, I thought that scene was a lot more well known ...

I've got a little sister who loves this girl, so this is HUGE news in my circle. Sorry.

Haha, that makes more sense.

Just FYI: I've not seen the wall (they showed us maybe 4 minutes of it in 10th grade, and that's all I ever saw of it), but I still knew the origin of that shot.

I'm still surprised to hear that Demi Lovato has a history of cutting herself. She must have some major self-esteem issues that need to be resolved. Also, I heard that she's no longer BFF with Selena Gomez.

Cutting is not necessarily connected to a deficiency of self esteem, at least that is my understanding

It's not. It's more of a control thing, at least with the cutters that I've known. It's what they resort to when they feel like they've lost hold of certain aspects (or all of) their lives. Gives them a little bit of that back.

That is pretty disturbing. Thanks for the link.

Not a fan of Pink Floyd. Sorry.

This girl has a legitimately good voice compared to most of her peers:

But with Mamma and Pappa Cyrus divorcing, Miley looks to catch up w/ Demi.

Miley drinks a Corona
Add a few shots and some lines and she'll start down the path.

Whoa, whoa. They showed the fucking Wall to you in 10th grade? Which part. I mean, not exactly the kind of thing I'd show to kids I don't think. But then, it's been a while since I saw it.

Frankly, it doesn't surprise me that Miley has had a drink already before the legal age, nor will it surprise me if it is revealed that she has already lost her virginity already. You can tell that she's in a period where she really wants to start experimenting the things that she couldn't do while she was young and under Disney's supervision.

Is she standing next to Christian from Clueless in that pic?

When i was in 8th grade (fucking junior high!) i was in a school production of The Wall. My role was that one of the background kids who punches down the "wall" (shoeboxes painted red).

According to Radar, Demi Lovato used cocaine and a video of her snorting in a bathroom is currently being shopped around to various media outlets, despite attempts to contain it:

Disney starlet Demi Lovato is caught on camera snorting cocaine in a shocking booze and drugs binge - that's the shocking charge being made to RadarOnline.com.

A friend who witnessed the 18-year-old do lines of coke at a party in North Richland Hills, Texas, told RadarOnline.com: "Demi was belligerent, being slutty and doing coke all over the house. The guy who hosted the party shot multiple videos of this and what I've seen with my eyes, Demi is screaming, 'F**k all of you, I'm famous, I don't care what any of you think of me the whole world loves me.' He shot her in the bathroom as she was finishing a line (of cocaine)."

In the footage, Lovato can be seen snorting the drug through a rolled up bill, according to the amateur cameraman who captured the images.

How in the hell hasn't anyone done an updated version of Valley of the Dolls that spoofs the whole Disney pop princesses phenomenon yet?
Cocaine is the perfect drug for the Disney tween set.

I don't want to live in a world where teenage starlets don't do cocaine.

Wait, you are around 16 in 10th grade, right? That is pretty much exactly the movie you should be showing to kids in an educational enviroment at that age in my opinion.

I just chalked it up to a generational thing. MTV was running full broadcasts of the movie on a 24 hour loop to celebrate the film's anniversary when I was a kid. I figure that imagery is part of the collective consciousness, but I see now how that assumption wouldn't hold up. It's not as if Pink Floyd has a big prominent media presence nowadays.

Right. Imagine how boring they'd be without it. As people, not media sluts. Coke is the chipper personality they need.

I saw segments that had to do with some fascist rock star who had red banners like Nazis did. It was when we were learning about facism, I think. The only part that seemed inappropriate for school were suggestive animated flowers on the DVD menus, which caused something of a titter

I had a cool teacher, what can I say*? He showed us about 15 minutes of BARAKA, all of MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, and many many other film clips (such as the classroom scene from AQOTWF during our unit on WW1)

*He was probably the only person I've ever met to have understood and encouraged my enthusiastic love for Alexander the Great. Back then, even the people in JCL didn't like Alexander because he was a low Greek (despite the name, JCL is very latin focused)

I am generally pro anything that might get an 18 year-old to mistakenly fuck me.

Am I the only one that sees the truncated version of this thread title, and fills in the word "death" at the end?

(not advocating that-- I'm another that really knows nothing about either-- just makes me chuckle)
Am I really the first to say this? Cocaine is a helluva drug!

I saw The Wall for the first time in my 10th Grade American History class. Also, every Friday we discussed the previous night's The Simpsons episode. Yeah, I am old enough to have seen the show when it aired on Thursday nights. :P

Just gotta say I'm happy my first reaction was "who the hell is that?", I find I know who too many of these people are. Mind you, if I were to see them in person, I wouldn't know or care who they are even if I know the name. Haha, actually that happened to a friend of mine, I think it was that Vanessa Hudgens one that came into the video store my friend works at and she had no idea who she was, and she ended up getting kind of angry that my friend didn't know or care who she was.

I've always had the sneaking suspicion that this whole Disney/Nickelodeon teen starlet factory is just a front for some huge sex operation. An exclusive harem for the super-rich and super-powerful. Which would also explain the high amount of human wrecks it produces. Or maybe I've watched Godfather too much.

If the Internet dies on Tuesday, it's because it's Miley's 18th birthday. It'll be legal to photoshop her head onto the bodies of pornstars and nude models, as long as the head shot doesn't come from before the 23rd.
Photoshopped? The real deal will be out within 6 months.

I'll admit it:

I'm dead, outright in love with Demi.

Sue me.
