THE DARK KNIGHT RUMORS RETURN

Our post-Riddler, post-title announcement wave of bullshit begins.

Vera Farmigia stepping into Elle Macpherson's shoes? The fanboy backlash on this is gonna put a muhfucka in traction.

Don't worry about people picking up on all the little flourishses you throw in for those of us who actually read the articles, Renn. "Loose lips... spill short lists" = great. That actually wouldn't make a half-bad little tagline for a recurring rumour round-up feature or the Casting Couch articles.

You're also 100% right about the Farmiga thing. She'd make a wonderful addition to something like this. An unusually believable bit of rumour-mongering, if that's all it is.

Since this is an (admittedly) non-story, I'll just go ahead and ask without feeling like I'm derailing: is there any chance of losing the "Oh Don Piano" thing, before the rumors around this film hit full swing?

I find most, if not all the writers on this site delightful (particularly Renn, who wrote this article), and I think you guys are above recycling another writer's half-baked "catchphrases".

And that cat video got old super quick.

"ComicBookMovie makes the truly baffling assertion that Vera Farmiga is too old to play a love interest. That's stupid and they're stupid for saying it. She's only four years older that Maggie Gyllenhaal and we're lucky humans every single time she is projected on screens in front of us. They are dumb."

Amen.

I have no plans to keep up the Don Piano thing. Consider it a transitional mention in the first post-announcement Batman rumor story. Ultimately I do agree though that it sucks to have to cover this kind of bullshit, but it's out there and brutha's got to keep up. People want their Batman news. Hell, I do too.
Sure. Who wouldn't want to hear about attractive women being hit up for a Batman movie that might very well include Clayface (Charlize Theron).

Cheers to you, good sir.

Not to mention the fact she's only a year older than Bale to begin with.

Time to fanwank about Clayface messing with mafia and authorities in the absence of the Batman.
Man, I think I'm already sick of hearing about this movie. Wake me when there's a trailer.
Clayface isn't a huge stretch in Nolan's world, because you can do it with him being a disfigured actor who is a master with make-up and prosthetics. Sort of like Darkman, but ya know...not campy. Same as Killer Croc being a big guy with a skin condition and modified teeth. Or Mr. Freeze being an icy demeanored hitman. Etc. Fan wank over.

You. Are. Terrible.

First rumors to not make me gouge my own eye out. I just wish Nolan would go ahead and put Catwoman rumors to bed.

I've always wondered if Clayface could be done in a movie like T-1000. He was very similar in the animated series, a friend even pointed it out when I showed it to him as he'd never seen the show before. It has been a long time since CGI has been used the way it was in that movie with such creativity lavished on a character's depiction. It still looks better than the CGI in a lot of newer movies. Enough time may have passed for such a character to feel quite original.

It's like how many thought no one could ever play The Joker again after what an iconic performance Jack Nicholson gave in '89. I could imagine a shape shifting villain being as cool as T-1000 again. That Julie Madison rumour is weird. The first thing I thought when I read it is I can't believe this movie could recycle a character from freaking "Batman and Robin" of all places. Yes, I know she was in the comics, but I can't help but think of the movie when I see that name.

The leap that fanboys have to take from these latest casting rumors in order to suggest the appearance of Clayface is some fucking incredible, practically impossible, Evel Knievel type shit, but they've managed to do it anyway.

You're actually pretty spot on there, Mike. He actually was. There's been several Clayfaces in the comics, and the first was an actor who was pissed his movie was being remade, so he started killing people while wearing a clay mask he had made, since he was also a make-up artist.

I don't mind Clayface, but he might be too close to Jigsaw.

That was also in the animated series I believe as well.

Farmiga is too old to play Bale's love interest? What the fuck? Sometimes I wish I could just turn off the entire internet.

Nah, in the Animated series, Clayface was an over-the-hill, disfigured actor who made a deal with the mob for a chemical that made him look young again. He had to commit robberies while using the chemical as a disguise or something in return -- don't remember the specifics of that.

But, the mob turns on him and force-feeds him the chemical, transforming him.
There were at least four Clayfaces in the comics (Edit: SIX!), four (six) more than will be in the new movie.

My favorite from the comics was the 70s guy who was a puddle and had to keep hisself in a jar/costume:

It was actually a crooked businessman and his henchmen, not the mob, but close enough. With so many different versions of the character, it shouldn't be too hard to come up with a back story that works in the movie's universe if they go with this character. I read that one of the origins had him being transformed by jumping into a mystical pool of something or other?
Nolan could absolutely come up with a version of Clayface that is grounded enough to work in the context of his Batfilms.

He won't.
I think the Joker opened the door for some fairly flamboyent (in the most inclusive sense of the word) villains; the "normal" criminals referred to him (and, presumably, the his Arkham minions) as "freaks," potentially setting up a Gotham where Batman battles both "respectable" villains and "freaks," who are also warring with each other, as well as the factions within the Gotham police.

But I also strongly doubt Clayface will be the villain. Catwoman, Deathstroke, Deadshot and Black Mask seem the likeliest candidates.
I'd love to see Clayface in a movie (his TAS eps were amazing), but I doubt Nolan goes with it. Still betting on Bane and Talia, maybe Black Mask.

I think Ms Farmigia would be an excellent choice. Great to see an adult cast as a love interest in a comic book film for once. She is a talented actress and would make a great foil for Bale's Bruce Wayne
