Great article! I liked your story's progression. You did a lot of research on this. Very informative.

And as for Bring It On... I'm a 43 year old man. I loved it.

What's not to love about Bring It On? It's well written, well acted, well directed and has a bunch of cute girls being hot.

I must say though that out of all these movie in addition to Bring It On, I've only watched The Cheerleaders (bored out of my fucking mind) and Buffy (not worth a second thought). For a concept so uniquely American, especially during high school it has been pretty underrepresented, at least quality wise.

So fucking good. So FUCKING good.

Yeah, the original BRING IT ON is way better than it has any right being.

No mention of SATAN'S CHEERLEADERS? Alas.

Loving this column, as always.

I've noticed something interesting during my past decade of BRING IT ON fandom, which is that a lot of women I know seem embarrassed to like BRING IT ON. They're always quick to self-consciously call the film a guilty pleasure. It is largely dudes I know who champion the film as being legitimately good. Again, this is just my circle of friends, but I find it fascinating nonetheless.

My theory is that guys champion it BECAUSE it's girly, and they love to "discover" movies that blow away expectations. Girls, on the other hand, probably think their love of it will be seen in the same vein as a love of Sleepless in Seattle or Stepmom (Stepmom? Stepmom.), so they're more likely to feel embarrassed.

Guys I know, on the other hand, will be quick to dismiss Fight Club as "pretty good, but way overrated" while girls have no trouble embracing it for what it is: a really fucking good movie. The real question is, are Bring It On and Fight Club the same thing? Of course they are. Eliza Dushku and Kirsten Dunst are the same person. Which gives that charming tooth-brushing scene some very interesting incestual overtones.

I don't have a ton to add to this discussion, but I wanted to pop in to tell Josh this was one of my favorite articles, especially how it was set up, that I've read on here in a while.

I smell a humorously re-edited youtube trailer meme!
