SET VISIT PREVIEW: SUCKER PUNCH

Devin went to the set and this is beginning of his coverage of what he saw.

No, he's not back. This is old stuff he has committed to.

I'm still a deadbeat, don't worry.

As Puppet Gary Coleman in Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q would say, "It gets old."

Yes, that was uncalled for and in bad taste but I'm just sad, grumpy, and baffled by the way things boiled out.

You know what, enough yapping from you about this for a while.

Don't worry, Nick. We like you just the way you are, deadbeat and all.

As for this movie, I look forward to it. That being said, I'm wary that the Devin Curse will stick to it. Every movie he championed in the past died a horrible death at the Box Office.

Mind you, this used to be the CHUD curse, but I hereby exorcise the curse onto Devin. After all, he was truly the champion of filmed curses like Scott Pilgrim and Sky Captain in the past. Let him take the slip of devil-summoning paper from Curse of the Demon with him to his new home and free us from our bondage.

That's because the movies Devin championed were trash.
All of 'em? Not all of 'em. I didn't like Watchmen, but c'mon.

Oh, come the fuck on. Despite having kept my mouth shut from yapping during pretty much the entire ridiculous-if-not-predictable Devin-Nick falling out and not wanting to derail the thread any further, that's just a retarded statement. I can come up with a list of movies Devin and CHUD championed -- KNOCKED UP, KISS KISS BANG BANG, THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES, ZODIAC, CHILDREN OF MEN and THE SQUID AND THE WHALE off the top of my head -- that were anything but trash. Let's not make like Devin is Akhenaten with the smearing of the name and the rewriting of the history now that there's a new reign of Pharoahs, yeah?

The thirteen-year-old boy in me thinks that Sucker Punch looks completely awesome. The twenty-six year old wonders if I've outgrown it.

Anyone who thinks Devin didn't shine a light on some amazing films they wouldn't have known about is talking out their ass.

This has overdone it with some flicks, but not normally.

Heavens to Betsy! So how about that set visit?

Would it destroy my tenuous credibility to say that I'm looking forward to this 2011 film way more than THOR, CAPTAIN AMERICA and THE GREEN LANTERN combined? It just looks dazzling, and yes, there are skirts.

You also forgot acting sensation and every straight man's "I'm not gay but I would go gay for..." number one choice Jon Hamm!

The footage I saw at Comic Con did NOTHING for me. It reminded me of The Cell: All pretty, no smart.

I think Rath nailed it pretty well. The first time I watched the trailer my inner teenager was really into it but after watching it again it just seems like a poor excuse to throw all kinds of random shit on screen. I hope I'm wrong about Snyder but I don't really think he's a director that has a whole lot to say. I'm sure it will look pretty but I just can't see it having much more depth than that.

Movie is still want!

also lol nick never change

I would like this movie to have the same impact as say... Jacob's Ladder.

There should be no happy endings for clockwork zombie Germans and slinky dancing nurses.

Snyder has such an intriguing style that I won't entirely mind if his message isn't executed as well as I hope it is, because I do think that he has some intelligence as a filmmaker. There's really nothing wrong with a film that exists entirely for visual splendor, for fascinating world-building.

No, saying this doesn't destroy your credibility, it locks it up in a dark, dank basement and engages in all sorts of perverse, orifice rupturing Gimpy activity with it.
This goes on for years.

Kidding.

In all seriousness, this film looks like a tremendous example of all the bad shit that comes with a generation of kids that get their concept of storytelling from videogames, but it is ironically made by a 40-year-old man. Maybe I'm just a grumpy old dweeb and hypocrite, and I should just relax and let the new kids enjoy their Pacman and Mortal Starfox computer games, but man, this film looks fucking goofy and dumber than a box of rocks on a shortbus.

I have definitely been...Sucker Punched, enough by this film to be very interested in the, Bevy of beauties in less, vs Giant Robots, zombies, etc. It might not be high on my list as there are so many...Awesome, Superhero films to see.

I disagree with the criticizing of Devin's movie taste. I have many MANY problems with that man (and loved Nick's opening posts BTW) but Devin's taste in movies overall i agreed with. There are many movies I have seen and loved because of his reviews that I might not have seen otherwise. He has been wrong in my eyes at times (Obviously his Batman critics, and he has weird taste in comedies) but overall he is a good judge of film.

Also I'm looking forward to the movie a lot. I hope it is Snyder going full blown with all his style over substance and then moves on to stage two of his career.
