Condi Rice ain't stupid folks.  Why would anyone with an inch of forehead want to jump on the out of control, on fire, speeding train that is the GOP presidential ticket for 2012?  Plus, I think she's happy at Stanford and hoping to get back with Jack now that Avery is out of the picture.

What about Jan Brewer?

Good choice...if Romney is looking to poll even lower among Latino voters than his current 13%. I'm betting Rob Portman.

I think it bears repeating why Chris Christie isn't on the ticket this year:

He's really fat.

Primaries in Wisconsin today, Romeny ahead, still can't get 1,144 delegates, blah, blah, blah.

I'd be wailing too if that guy was leaning on me.

The GOP Primary season feels like a reverse of the '08 cycle in terms of enthusiasm.   While both contests went longer than expected, there was a sense with the Democrats that it was a win win situation.   Hillary and Barrack were both great choices to go into the general and the problem was who was the better of the two.   With the GOP primary, it feels like a contest between who is the most tolerable and marketable for the general election.   Once again John Stewart hits the nail on the head with the lack of enthusiasm even his endorsers feel....

"We've done enough voting, it was fun at first, but now?  Eh......"

Indeed, nailed it.

I think it's because it came to Clinton or Obama pretty early on, and both were going to be landmark runs either way. History was going to be made that year. This one? It's hard to get excited when it's still a three-dog race (with a fourth dog just gnawing at the other three for shits and giggles), all of them old white guys saying the same thing and merely playing to an ever-shrinking base.

Never, ever, ever, ever.

Look up some of her other speeches or interviews.  Jan Brewer is not the least bit impressive.  The last thing you want in a running mate is an "Oh-No-Grandma's-Overmedicating-Again" kind of demeanor.

Jan Brewer has that photo op of her standing up to the "Uppity President" but other than the racists who get a kick out of that, I don't see Brewer adding much to the ticket.   I want to say that he's going to get someone who is charismatic and can bring people to rallies.   Like Sarah Palin but smarter.

I could see a push to put Nikki Haley on the ticket....

-a woman, so the GOP/RNC could run with the idea that they aren't misogynists

-she's anti-abortion (or as I like to call it, 'pro-control'...I refuse to use the term pro-life)

-she comes from a Sikh background (which I didn't know) so that could play to the idea that "the GOP isn't racist"

-the hardcore GOP men would love another 'milf' candidate

-?

but....

-her Sikh heritage wouldn't play well with the ignorant "bomb the terrrists" crowd

-I believe she has been accused of having an affair ?

-?

So, the main considerations in picking a Republican Vice Presidential candidate are tricking people into thinking Republicans aren't evil and convincing dumb, horny guys they should vote with their genitals?

This year?  Yeah.  No politician with a bare chance at 2016 would be foolish enough to throw his/her hat in the ring.  That's why Christie is sitting it out.

Also, why do you think they picked Sarah Palin?  It wasn't for her intellectual acumen, that's for sure.  It's because she was able to get the women vote and had a nice rack that guys could stare at.

I know of almost no women who actually took to Palin; she was actually the deciding factor in my mom voting for Obama.

And I've never gotten the "she's attractive" angle. Who can tell what kind of rack she has under those awful suitskirts? She was so manufactured that I can't fathom any man with a brain and a pulse would fall under her sway. But then, that's also why I'm not a Republican.

Huckabee?  Nah.  He's already got a failed primary run under his belt, and a cushy job at Fox.

I think the moral of the story here is that we really shouldn't be so upset about potential conservative wins in the short term.  Few standouts aside, they'll all be dead soon from heart disease, diabetes, and other assorted maladies stemming from obesity!

On the other side of the election, Rolling Stone has an interesting look at the Obama Machine Redux.

During breaks in the Penguin game, I would flip to MSNBC to watch Santorum and Romney's speeches. Of course they where both full of shit. Santorum was of course going on about values, liberty and how Pennsylvania is a bedrock of both. I don't want to hear about liberty from someone who thinks contraceptives should be banned. Since we all know that Benjamen Franklin liked to party, I doubt he would want anything to do with a prude like Santorum.

Then Romney blamed the debt and gas prices on Obama. It is a simple fact that Bush took a budget surplus and turned it into a massive debt. Gas didn't go up till the Iraq War. A war that, until recently, Romney was all for. Its also the market that decides what oil prices are. So if you don't like buying more for gas, you don't like the free market, and that makes you a soulless commie. Romney then cited Obama lack of leadership. Cause taking both sides of every issue is real leadership.

This selection pretty handily sums up Obama vs. the GOP this election:

Quote:

Obama already has eight "regional grassroots offices" in Michigan, with plans to expand to a dozen in the coming weeks. Mitt Romney, by contrast, apparently shut down his Michigan office soon after he won the primary on February 28th. A call to Romney's press office to arrange a visit to a field office in Michigan produces only puzzlement. "In Michigan?" a bewildered spokeswoman tells me. "We obviously had one. I don't even know if I still have the address."

The Obama field office in Detroit, a spacious operation overlooking the Motor-City Casino near Interstate 94, has been up and running since June 2009. Open seven days a week, it has made some 40,000 calls in the past three months, working to transform supporters on the sidelines into active volunteers. It has also registered more than 4,000 people to vote. There's not a paid organizer in the room, but it remains a hive of self-organized activity, with more than a dozen volunteers working cellphones, often until 10 or 11 at night.

The gas prices thing just really pisses me off. Every Fucking Summer gas prices go up because OMG! People drive more! And every fucking Summer some nimbot Politician tries to tell is it's X's fault; nothing to do with Supply and Demand. This from the party that says they worship Supply and Demand.

Well we can rest easy now. Romney's pretty much got the nomination now. Whew that was close!

Well, let's not pop the champagne corks yet. Newt says he's in this thing until the end! And if there's one fucking guy who sticks to his commitments...

As much as Republicans want to make this Obama's Recession, a majority of Americans still say that this is Bush's Recession.   I mean, the economy went bust at the end of Bush's presidency and it was damn near a Depression.   I'm just glad people don't have total amnesia.    One thing I'm hoping for in this election cycle is a more cynical and meaner Obama when it comes to dealing with the Republicans.   He really just needs to tear them a new asshole this time around.

Nikki Haley said on Colbert last night that she wouldn't agree to be Vice President. Who Romney chooses is the last interesting thing yet to be decided in this race, I suppose.

When Obama actually starts running ads and campaigning against Romney, I can't see him not crushing him. All he has to do is run clips of things the Republicans have said about Romney during this primary season and his work is done for him. I really hoped that Santorum would win the nomination and then be destroyed in the general election. Romney's loss is only going to drive the Republican party further to the right, the way McCain's loss did. The conservatives blame McCain's center-ness for the loss, rather then Palin's extreme right wing views. When Romney loses we'll have another 4 years of, "That's what happens when you don't run a REAL conservative," and the argument that the candidate just wasn't radically right wing enough.

This will re-re-energize the far right, but at the same time might lead to the destruction of the Republican party as it splits into big government big business Republicans and the Tea Party. The GOP managed to co-opt the Tea Party energy over the past four years, but I don't know that it can do it again after Romney loses.

The great thing about that photo is the genuine smile on Obama's face.  That wasn't just another empty photo op.  The President of the United States was legitimately excited to be in the presence of Uhura.

Well that locks up the coveted African-American trekkie vote.

see, the tea party were right about Obama not being an American...they just happened to be off by 16 light years.

"In the news today, the President took a break from his regularly scheduled golf game to roll out the red carpet for '60s radical & stationery terrorist Rosa Parks at the White House this afternoon. While their photo was being taken, the two old friends flashed what we can only assume are militant Black Panther "V" hand signs meaning "VIOLENCE AGAINST ALL WHITES". The White House assured Fox News that she was, in fact, an actress of some kind. Nice try, Mr. Obama, but you can't spin this one."
