The choreographed bankruptcy dance of MGM has finally reached its climax.

Spyglass taking over (sorta) MGM. So fucking weird. It's fucking MGM for fuck's sake. MGM!

Sic transit gloria mundi, as the Romans would say.

I can't believe one of the big studios hasn't dumped a truck load of cash at MGM's door to get Bond. The movies all make at least half a billion dollars!

Me too. Haven't Sony been coveting the Bond franchise since forever?

"Ah, 007, here is the car we are assigning to you. It's a 2003 Saturn with all the standard features: crystallized silica windshield, petroleum-based, pneumatically inflated wheels, analog window control and a magnetic-tape-based audio replay system with fast-forward and auto-reverse. And almost every gear works."

You know after reading the THR article, I kind of get the feeling the Icahn is kind of an asshole. Am I right? Everything I've ever read about him makes it seem like he's just a truly vile person.

I believe they had the rights to distribute CASINO ROYALE and QOS in some countries. But it was only a 2 movie deal. Not sure why they haven't got in on the act.

I suspect MGM were very keen to hold on to Bond, it was their only real piece of collateral.

That is the problem with the Bond franchise: how much is it worth? A mediocre Bond makes you hundreds of million world wide. I think it would take much more than a truckload. You could almost assume the opening bid would have to be at about a billion dollars; and you have to have not just MGM but EON on board as well.

With this news and the other about MGM planning on releasing a Bond film every two years, I'm pretty relieved. It wasn't too long ago folks doomed and gloomed about how the hiatus would probably stretch longer than it did between Licence to Kill and GoldenEye, I'm glad that won't be the case and we'll get a new film on 2012. It almost seemed like Craig would be the new Dalton of the franchise with his tenure being cut short so early.

I have to concur it's bizarre to see MGM turned over to a company like SPY GLASS (I didn't even realize SG was an actual independent studio of some sort), but thank god this horrible nightmare might finally be coming to an end. The sooner BOND and ARONOFSKY ROBOCOP can get moving, the better for my emotional well being

Aronofsky's ROBOCOP is dead, thank god.
Don't want to see him waste his time on unecessary remakes.

Yes yes, I'd much rather he spend his time making the sequel to X MEN ORIGINS WOLVERINE...

Anyway... I was really looking forward to his vision of ROBOCOP. My understanding is it's not dead, just heavily delayed. He still is interested in the project, but had to drop out due to MGM's budget woes. It could still happen once his slate clears up
