Yeah, this was always my interpretation as well. I dunno if I'd call it bathed in neon lights, but it's there.

Now he's been mentioned, stick a Hitler 'tache on Jeffrey Dean Morgan and he'd make a fine younger Triple J. I picture that combo and it toally works for some reason.

I keep seeing discussion on boards about costs. People do realize that Sheen and Fields don't cost much right? Sheen may have talent coming out of his ass but the guy doesn't come with a 5 million dollar price tag. They've both had tv shows. One of them is still on one. If you're not too expensive for a network show you aren't too expensive for an 80 million dollar film.

Anything that gives the world McKraven and J. Jonah Comedian gets my backing.

The only original cast member from Raimi's flicks whose return I desperately want to see is Willem Dafoe, whose incredibly expressive face made Normon Osborn the fuel of countless nightmares. During the middle of the film, right in the heat of a serious action sequence, his head needs to float across the screen unexpectedly, screaming AVENGE ME!!!!!

Surely the only character that NEEDS to return is Bernard The Exposition Butler.

I'm wondering if he's the one who had amnesia before Harry, especially with the "oh hey your father..." moment in 3.

As great as Sheen is, I feel like we're getting another origin story. Here's hoping Vanderbuilt and Webb get "creative" with Ben's presence, and present him through flashbacks that feature relevant life lessons with Peter and Uncle Ben. Just no more time wasting origins.

And MichaelM + Nick, one name for Jonah. Roger. Fucking. Sterling.

What, not Hal Sparks?

Campbell Scott for the J-Cubed role?

I'm betting Jonah won't be in this. I have a feeling they're just going to focus on the origin and Gwen Stacy love story, with a side of Lizard.

When Wikipedia is merciless throwing spoilers for every major release, why can they skip the origin stuff? Any child with a certain attention span could check his backstory later.

If they drop the "Pete needs money and the Bugle pays money for Spidey pics" then yeah...

Spidey writers have been leaning on that one since Ditko.

I just have a gut feeling about this. If I was writing the reboot, I wouldn't include Jonah. There's no following JK Simmons. He's the one inarguably awesome thing about the previous films.

I've been pimping Hugh Laurie (buddy of mine even did a manip and I'll post it below), but you Sir are fuckin' brilliant!

This is true, especially if we have no previous reference to Osborn or the Goblin. It would be suitably out of left field.

Wasn't Laurie originally supposed to play Perry White in Superman Returns?

And I like the McGinley idea, but if he does the Dr. Cox thing, I'm afraid it's going to seem like an impression of J.K. Simmons. I still think the best idea is to keep Simmons on and make him the Judi Dench of Spider-Man.

Collider ran a rumour that John Slattery and Sam Elliot were both in the running for JJJ. No idea of the veracity of that report, but I think either could bring something great. I'd love to see Slattery have some fun with the role.
Get Elliot. I like Slattery well enough but the Mad Men wank needs to end. Elliot is golden in pretty much all he does, including Ghost Rider. Also see Hulk.
Look, I'll tolerate Chris Evans playing both Johnny Storm and Captain America, but John Slattery playing both JJJ and Papa Stark!?! NO FUCKING WAY

EDIT: That goes triple for Elliot. We don't need a drawling laconic JJJ who's previously played TWO Marvel side characters! What, is he gonna play every character with a mustache!? New blood!

While I like the idea of Hugh Laurie as JJJ, I'm still pulling for him to play the title role in ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER.

My choice for JJJ: William Petersen or Joe Mantegna. Ooh, wait: William H. Macy! (Or Miguel Ferrer.)

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Kraven made me smile in the pants.

Great casting. Though I dont really think we need a reboot of Spider-Man..I'll still happily be there in line to see it when it comes out.

While it's true that following Simmons is no picnic, leaving out J Jonah probably isn't an option. He's an indispensable part of the mythos. It would be like doing Superman without Perry White or Jimmy Olson.

Of course, with the courts having decided in favor of the Siegel estate, that one may actually happen.

Field is a damn good choice for Aunt May if they're going more Ultimate Spider-Man with the characterizations, where May is not at all the frail grandmotherly figure of the regular Marvelverse and the Raimi films.
