DEPP TO FINALLY GET HIS DARK SHADOW

Johnny Depp and Tim Burton collaboration #6.

Depp would actually make a better Quentin than Barnabas, in my opinion.

Much like THE ADDAMS FAMILY stop-motion flick, this is a perfect fit for Burton's sensibilities. Plus, Depp's love for the character guarantees he's gonna knock this one out of the park (unlike his Mad Hatter, the ONLY time I've been disappointed in a Depp performance). I know a lot of people are sick of the Burton/Depp collaborations (though I'm not sure why), but this is a good fit.

I've got a good feeling about it - can't wait to see more as it develops.

Burton again? Son of a bitch, is Depp actually trying to keep me away from his movies?

Sorry but if you think Burton's sensibilities are a good fit for this then you haven't a clue what Dark Shadows was like either originally or in the update. Depp can do this but not underneath a veneer of childhood whimsy. Plus if there are any Barnabas/vampire-who-created-him-daddy-issues then this film will be box office bank but critical trash.

Because the last few weren't good. If I had to guess, I'd say that's why. And each new one is worse then the last.

I was excited for a Depp/Hanks/Bigelow picture. Depp/Burton? It's so fucking obvious it's boring.

I wonder if the Dark Shadows Theme will be getting the Danny Elfman treatment. No polka please.

Hopefully this one will be more in line with Sleepy Hollow and less in similarity to Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. I wanna see a fine woman cast as Maggie Evans. The lower the expectations are, the better. I just don't wanna be waiting for a great film only to be shit on by regurgitated gothic atmospheres.

Anyone want to bet that Barnabas won't have deep-seated Daddy issues in this one? Depp seems to be acting as Burton's surrogate in working these out on the big screen - it cluttered an otherwise fantastic SLEEPY HOLLOW, and expelled the last messy turd as CHARLIE AND THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY shat the bed.

If you think Helena Bonham-Carter is fine then you'll be in luck.

Okay, everyone's sick of the Burtin/Depp/HBC triumvirate, but Helena Bonham Carter is indeed fine as fuck.

Two things come to mind:

Fight Club (over the bed panning camera shot of her getting rocked and moaning)
Sweeny Todd (singing followed by burning)

Two sides, same coin, both hot...

[edit] Anywho, a Dark Shadows film could benefit the old series by shining a light on how interesting and addictive the Barnabus Collins seasons are. I like 'em.

I give you Alice in Wonderland but Sweeney Todd was fantastic. And lest we forget, it gave Depp an Oscar nomination.

And this is Depp's baby. He actually sought Burton to direct it not the other way around.

Bonham-Carter was a bodice-ripping babe back in the 90's. Unfortunately her face is getting kind of wonky as she ages.

If they go the Sleepy Hollow production design route than I'll end up seeing this even though I am so sick of those two goddammit.

My attraction to HBC freaks me right the fuck out, it literally knows no bounds. During CHARLIE & THE CHOCOLATE FACTORY I was sitting there thinking "Charlie's mom may have bad teeth, but I'd still bang the Hell out of her".

I found her attractive in Burton's PLANET OF THE APES.

It feels good to finally get that out there.

She's crazy-sexy as Bellatrix LeStrange.

I would hope Ed Wood and NOT Sleepy Hollow is the sensibility, style and mood that this film embraces. Less German Expressionist production design is all I ask.

Being that Depp is a fan, I have the silly desire to see him with that Jonathan Frid haircut.
Helena would be a perfect fit for Elizabeth Collins Stoddard.

I haven't been a Burton fan for most of his career, but as a recent fan of the television series, I'm looking forward to this.

We should have more updates about Triple Frontier, and talk about that some more.

Just sayin'!

Glad to know I'm not the only really sick one.

Interesting news. I'm glad that Depp can finally play a role that he was obsessed with as a youngster, although his #6 movie with Burton do feel like another dark, gothic film that we have seen many times before. I hope Dark Shadow will take more inspiration out of Sleepy Hallow than Sweeney Todd, though.

At this point, this is one of the least interesting pairings of material, star and director I can think of. There is literally almost nothing I'd want to see Depp do less than more 'spooky' Burton films. Perhaps like, 15 years ago the idea of Depp doing some 'dream movie' with Burton would have gotten my blood flowing, but at this point I feel like the guy has been wallowing in self indulgence already for the past decade and I have no desire to sit around watching Burton enable him to enact some childhood fantasy

Actually, I'm very much aware of DARK SHADOWS sensibilities, having watched the original series as a kid, as well as the remake. Ergo, my personal belief that this COULD work (mostly because of Depp's devotion to the character). But thank you for that assumption, anyways.

Could be a shit sandwich, too, but I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt for now, considering they haven't filmed frame one yet.
