Weird DVD player issue

For some odd reason, some of my DVD won't play in the proper aspect ratio. For example, I was trying watch The Last Temptation of Christ and it was full screen and I have no idea why. Anybody have an idea on what's going on?

DVD? You caveman!

But seriously either check the aspect ratio setting on your DVD player or your tv. One time I hit the wrong button and switched the aspect ratio on the tv. Other than that I have no idea. Luckily DVD players are really cheap now.

I have no idea how to check the aspect ratio on the DVD player or TV. This is so fucking annoying and weird.

Well hit menu on the DVD player and look around. Same for the tv. Seriously if you look around it can't be hard.

The one DVD player I was able to check the aspect ratio on had it at 16:9. But The Last Temptation still was playing fullscreen. I doubt I'll fucking ever figure this out, thanks anyway.

Look up the model of your television online. Most likely, the manufacturer will have a pdf of the owner's manual (assuming that you obviously don't have the physical one at hand). Check the manual and it will/should show how to check/adjust your tv's aspect ratio output.

This actually ended up being a problem on all 3 of the DVD players at my house, I was able to fix two of them by switching the DVD player setting to 4:3. The one in my room I don't have a remote for so I can't access the setup menu on that one as my universal remote doesn't shit.

Waaaaaaaalt thanks for the advice.

It sounds to me like the DVD's are actually full screen presentations. By setting the DVD players to 4:3 your TV is going to stretch the picture to fill the screen as it's own setting. However, when you had the setting to 16:9 it sent out the 4:3 picture with black bar data on the sides. This is if you have widescreen TV's by the way.

Anyway, on the back of the DVD it will tell you the presentation aspect ratio of the movie. Just FYI.

Forgive me if this is something you know already.
