In what is a first for a big-name television series, Warner Bros. has distributed The West Wing's complete seven seasons of episodes in high definition exclusively through digital download on iTunes, Amazon Video On Demand and other online digital retailers, but no Blu-ray release has been announced.

What’s more, I’ve never seen the first season in 16:9 before, let alone HD:

The Pilot on Amazon Video On Demand:

The Pilot on DVD:

Sorry if this looks like spam, but I’ve been wondering about an HD release of this series for what seemed like forever, to just see it show up one day, without any sort of warning, threw me for a loop.

It's honestly the kind of show that wouldn't need an HD transfer. Not a cinematic show. More like people talking all the time.

But hey, i'd love it.

I'd have to disagree... The show featured incredible cinematography and scenery, and large scale events. TWO CATHEDRIALS is an excellent example of this, as that episode filmed in the National Cathedrial. I had no idea that the first season was even shot in 16:9 but it's great knowing it will now be available that way.

EDIT: Sorry the image is so small

Yeah, there are exceptions. But that wasn't always the rule.

Not every episode took place in a cathedrial, but my point was that the show has just as much a reason and a right to be in HD as 90210 Redux or whatever other programs are being released in the format these days

What is it, Tati makes dumbass statements day? The show was gorgeous looking from day one, frame one.

I'm actually rewatching the show now, and they spent so much money on sets etc that it seemed a shame to cut it all off. The show looks gorgeous, but in 4:3 the frame looks too busy.

Tati's dubious statement aside, Rath, the pissy-pants pose is wearing really thin. Take it down notch.
