Cee Lo Green - The Lady Killer

Masterpiece.

There's variety, but the genre-bending of Soul Machine is gladly put on the wayside for a more straightforward approach, and the songs stick with you like they have never before because of it. Cee Lo plays to his strengths and only his strengths...he's not trying to pull 10 rabbits out of his magic hat like he has in the past. Kinda wish 'What Part of Forever' would've made the cut as a bonus track.

where is the song georgia?

at least i will have the BOH cover on the split with cee lo

On a first listen it was fun to me but the production made it stale sounding. Everything at one level with nothing that interesting. a lot of been there done that.

cee lo sounds great throughout though.

Yeah, 'Georgia' should've been on the album. Goes to show you just how strong the album is when that didn't even make the cut.

Disagree about the production. I love the simplicity and sharpness of the arrangements. It's a great showcase for his gorgeous vocals.

Seriously pure fun.

I probably just need to give it more time. on a first listen it just felt very apparent he made almost every song with a different producer, some songs sounded more raw and honest than others. I think having it recorded more in the vein of Al Green's 2008 lay it down would have been beneficial. Slick as anything modern but had more of a live quality that sounds more natural to me.

$10 for the CD at Best Buy, and it's boasting two extra tracks. I believe I'll purchase that, and see what I get.

Sounded great on Colbert last night, might have to pick this up.

It's like mainlining modern-soul-happiness. And I like it.

Seriously unbelieveable, and I've been a fan since the old Goodie Mob stuff. "Bright Lights, Bigger City" is the kind of song I've been waiting for from him for a while. I think I've only found one song I couldn't get into. Might be a surprise entry for album of the year for me.

Yeah, Bright Lights is a killer track. Love Gun is probably my favorite, though. Love that beat.

Best album of the year. Just tremendous. "Satisfied" is the best song the Temptations never wrote.

'Lo posted on Twitter last night/this morning that he likes STRAY BULLETS better than THE LADY KILLER. Certainly his right to do so, but I'm sure a few label execs were ticked.

There's some damn good stuff on BULLETS, and if any of you in this thread are newer fans, and haven't gotten it yet (free download), you should really check it out.

Oh, I listened to the two extra tracks on the Best Buy version of the CD that I bought. One's pretty forgetful, but the last one is worth a damn. If someone wants to hear it, let me know.

Stray Bullets is a helluva lot of fun. "Night Train" is a killer track.

And yeah, I'll check out that last track, Gray. Thanks!

Genius pairing. If I don't get to see them I'll be soooooo disappointed!

In the last ten years, maybe.

Wait--- people can work up outrage over the Grammys?

I finally got to listen to this and I love it, last year was an amazing year for neo-soul, first Janelle Monae and now Cee-Lo Green. His voice really shines on songs like Bodies and Fool For You. The billie jean bass line of Bright Lights, Bigger City is an irrestible groove, it even contains elements of You Only Live Twice. I have to say Bodies and Fool for you are my absolute favorite tracks off this, Bodies is just so atmospheric and Fool For You has a terrific groove, Al Green would most definitely approve.

The best was the last line: And the fifth nominee was a lovely song, "Need You Now," by the country music group Lady Antebellum.

And yes, this cd freaking owns, what's the good song from Best Buys version? I got it on Amazon for 5 bucks so I can't complain too much.

Love this album. The album showcases Cee Lo's sense of humor, his contemporary soul-influenced sensibilities, and his absolutely phenomenal abilities as a vocalist, and the production is varied and always captivating.

I think that Wildflower is neck and neck with Fuck You, personally.

The comments are also great, as you can tell no one there has bothered listening to the song, saying stuff like it's part of the "Marxist plot" and shit like that. I didn't know songs about being pissed off at (but still feeling for) your ex were part of the revolutionary conspiracy. I must not have paid attention at the meetings.
