Has he ever been funny?
I got a few chuckles out of "Taking Care of Business".
Funny? Probably not. Great on screen? Yes.

When was he great on screen?
Real Men was pretty damn funny, but he had help from John Ritter as the straight man on that one. I also thought he was pretty good in The Principal.

SALVADOR.

The Prinicipal was awesome. I also remember liking K9 a lot, but then again I was 10 years old at the time.

I didn't consider SALVADOR as I was trying to find out if he had been funny. But you're right, it's a great movie and he is great in it.

I recently watched K9 for the first time. Maybe it's just me bring a jaded, cynical 34 year-old, but I chuckled twice.

Just find him annoying. It might be is "Bears" antics tho, since I hate that team.

He's mildly amusing opposite Arnold in Red Heat. Not exactly a ringing endorsement, but there we are.

Yeah, occasionally mildly amusing is as far as I'll go.

One rainy day I may check out REAL MEN, TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS or THE PRINCIPAL.

I'll report back.

In addition to "Salvador", I'd throw in "Thief"....But it's been a LONG time since he did anything funny or interesting.
He gives a fantastically heart-wrenching turn in Frederik Du Chau's seminal work, Underdog.
He has a neat little cameo in Little Shop of Horrors, especially when he comes in saying, "If you two kids would just stop singing for a moment..."
He was the only worthy part in "About Last Night...".

Don't expect much from Business. The other two are all right, though.

And, for the record, I was a bit envious that he had Rene Russo to dress up in lingerie for him in Mr Destiny.

He was hilarious as an angry, Bobby Knight-like chess coach in a one off sketch on SNL back in the day.

"You call that castling?!"

He's God's punishment on us for an evil world.

I liked that whole movie. It had some eighties cheese, especially with all the music montages, but it was way more eloquent and plausible than your average romantic comedy then and now. Jim was good, but seemed to be doing an impression of his more talented brother too much.

He's better in films when he isn't exactly supposed to be funny. He does good dramatically.

Too bad he's supposed to be a comedy actor.

He's no John.....
I actually liked him in "The Man with One Red Shoe". But then again, I like that movie.

And I enjoyed "Taking Care of Business" more than "Opportunity Knocks", which was the Deep Impact to it's Armaggedon. But I do remember that short amount of time where he was the leading man in a couple of movies.

It's pretty hilarious watching him run in "Red Heat."

Demi Moore's nakedness disagrees.

I think that's the main issue a lot of people have with Jim Belushi. John died while he was still in his prime, and some people hold that against Jim. I'll admit that I think John was funnier, but Jim is not as bad as some people make him out to be. Jim hasn't pulled a Randy Quaid yet, so he has that going for him.

"Oh, why don'tcha just GIVE him the Queen?"

Yeah, that was a good sketch. One of the few JB bits I can remember from his run.

He's fantastic in RETURN TO ME. I know, I know - a rom/com. Don't judge me!
