Yeah, this show is a different beast from the comic.. but compliments it well.

I did feel that Darabont and co. were deliberately fucking with the comic fans with that scene between Shane and Rick in the woods, playing on our expectations of a certain neck shot and all.

At any rate, I'm digging the show despite the differences.. though if forced to choose between the two I would still go with the comic.

Maybe the guy from the CDC is a take on the fake scientist from the comic. Not that this guy is fake but that they will have to get him to Washington DC.

You guys think that Darabont might skip Herschel and the farm stuff altogether? I've read that Darabont really likes the prison storyline so I'm sure we'll get that eventually, but Herschel might be cut. Although we do need some zombiefodder, so Herschel's kids would be great for that.

At this point that's as good a theory as any. I started to write that I was hoping to see that huge guy who is helping the scientist get to DC but he could always show up in a totally different way. Same goes for Hershel's farm. Isn't that where Glenn meets his future wife? Of course same goes for this...she could easily be introduced in a whole new way.

Wow, anyone catch issue #83 yet? Jesus Christ.... it takes a lot to make my jaw drop, and mine just about hit the floor at the end of this issue. Fuck!

Issue # 83....

 

Jesus Fuck.  I have followed this book from issue #1.  I really hate it that Kirkman is again sacrificing character integrity for cheap shock value.  So much stupid on display in this issue.  Rick's plan was stupid, (edit: Andrea's) plan was stupid, the nurse's reaction to the zombies was stupid, Glenn's freak out was stupid, the Mayor's last minute action hero turn was stupid,  And if Carl survives that wound without the benefit of a fully stocked and staffed trama center, that will be pretty stupid too.  Michone is the only character in this book that Kirkman has consistently treated with any level of integrity and respect.

I'm trying to think of a time Kirkman didn't put cheap shock value above all.  And didn't Kirkman spend a multi-panel page or two illustrating Michone's rape by the governor back in the day?

 

Damn, if only Ennis, Casey, anybody but Kirkman could've written this book.

it's just the circular nature of the book: security, infighting/invasion, zombie attack, someone dies, run away, security. i had higher hopes for nowhere to go but instead it's just another slaughter storyline. The kid had to go - they kept kinda making jokes about him not getting any older - but the kid in the tv show is going to be shaving before you know it.

 

it's also a nice bit of anti-gun propaganda.

 

The CDC guy was just a bit of exposition, hopefully it has satisfied everyone who NEEEEEEDED to know all the details.
