Comic book fans are fucked up and shit

Thread Starter
This is kind of like The People Of Wal-Mart but less exploitative and more verbal. Some dude in a comic shop depicts the misanthropic things his customers say.

That last one is funny.
Great website! It's kinda scary that these people exist...
The misogyny is both unbearable and not surprising at all.

I don't know why this makes me laugh more than any other one. Might be his expression.

Can't get enough of that anger directed towards a fictional character.
For me it's the phrasing. "That's how come it's hard for me to get pussy" That's how a third grader would say it. Which is also not surprising. I find it both infuriating and hilarious when I hear grown men speak in such a way.

The same type of person adds 'for' after a how or why question. "How come it gets dark for?" is real question I heard from a mongoloid regarding 'night time.'

This is probably the angriest towards a fictional character I've seen. I think Spider-Man ate out his girlfriend or something.

EDIT: I think the most fascinating thing is how much of their sexual fantasy lives the customers unwittingly (or, often, wittingly) offer up on a regular basis.
Yep. No surprises here.

"One like what? Instead she bought him a Kyle Rayner (WHITE Green Lantern) action figure. Oh."

Not even this one, really.

Though the level of hostility present in Magic fans is still goddamn amazing.
Thanks, PMR. The website is amongst the greatest things ever.

This one is my favourite, because I kinda sorta agree with it.

I was going to post this in a new thread, but it fits in this one pretty well: iFanboy analyzes the "nerd pride" thing.

So glad my local comicshops aren't filled with crazy a-holes.

His logic is impeccable.

If you have to ask....

I know mine has them. But, the staff dos a good job of keeping them in check.

I lost an hour of sleep after seeing a link to this blog posted on Facebook last night. It's great.

At the shop I used to visit regularly I saw things like a father using his little girl's report card to take advantage of a promotion the store was running to snag free shit. She was not a comic book fan. I also saw a guy go nearly berserk b/c of Bale's "does it come in black" line from the the then unreleased Batman Begins. He was deeply upset and predicting a Batman and Robin level disaster because Batman "should never, ever be funny". This loud and intense decrying of "funny Batman" went on for 15 minutes.

Pfffthahaha

I once witnessed a 30 minute argument over whether Brock Lesnar or Bill Goldberg would make a better Venom, that I thought was going to end in a fist fight (it actually might have, I ended up leaving).

This website is actually a bit depressing because I know how true it is, and because it illustrates how uninviting comic shops can be to newer or casual readers. There are normal people that visit comic shops, but they seem to be being drowned out by crazy assholes who want to foot-fuck Sue Storm. So it's pretty much like the rest of America.

I don't get it. Why shouldn't Wayne be a charming playboy? How is that damaging to the batman mythos? The trailer for BB made clear that line is delivered by Bruce Wayne and not his BM persona. Just listen for the Batvoice

EDIT I went to a famous comic shop (whose name I cannot remember) in Boston once in 2004. That is my only experience in such an establishment to date. They had some cool stuff, but prices were very high and I found the general atmosphere of the place to be intimidating. I ended up purchasing a copy of EVIL DEAD 2 on DVD for 35$. I feel no pressing need to repeat that shopping experience

Forget it Kate, it's Fanboytown.

Fair enough, and I guess that really is all the explanation necessary. Still though, I am an avowed fan of the grim and gritty approach to Batman, and even I think it's strange to demand that a BATMAN blockbuster be devoid of any and all traces of humor. It sounds like nothing short of THE ROAD of BATMAN movies would have pleased this guy

There are no famous comic book shops in Boston.
?

One I can actually get behind!

And they walk around muttering "Fooaam! Foooooaaaaaam!"
It really is too bad that I can't talk about some of the really good stuff (i.e., hugely depressing), it's too specific and a good bit of it is about people who know me and who would be really pissed to see me talking about their insanity in a public forum.

One thing I will mention, without getting into too many details, was this one legitimately deranged young "woman" who 100% believed that she had superpowers. An equal source of pity, and yes, amusement.

Hahaha! Man, these are fantastico!

To her friend regarding the book titled 'Pride and Prejudice and Zombies'...

She bought an Evil Dead 2 DVD there. I'm thinking she means Newbury Comics. Am I right, Kate?
I was thinking Million Year Picnic, but Newbury does sound more likely.
I'm getting horrible flashbacks reading those; they're so... realistic.

Make it stop.
Tell us some of your stories, matches!
Honestly, literally everything you've read here. Everyone's favorite point of discussion was who would win in a fight, Wolverine or Spider-Man, but every hour someone came in with a ridiculous nitpick of comic adaptations in popular culture. Like I said, the stuff from these comics are exactly what I would hear in my store, with the most prescient and spot-on being the comment about Joss Whedon, and if someone else thought of it first, they'd be just as talented as Joss Whedon. I may have heard that one four or five times.
This one sums up geek internet culture the best, I'd say:

This guy comes in every week and buys everything BATMAN related. Batwoman, Bargirl, Batman and Robin, Red Robin, Batman Confidential, Batman and Superman, Batman: Streets of Gotham and so on. He probably spends 20 bucks a week and the only thing he ever talks about is how shitty every single Batman title is.
Those are the people who really feel as though they have the right to complain, after all, they buy all the titles so they KNOW how to fix them.

Yea but I doubt it's Newbury comics, since its a nice place, and the comics mention customers calling the place a shit hole a number of times.

That is it! Good job, I tried and tried to remember but couldn't LOL

99% chance it's the grungy little comic shop in Allston/Brighton, right on Comm Ave if I remember correctly.

I have no idea where this guy works, although I'd love to find out - I was just musing on the place Kate bought her DVD. My rather limited experience with that place gives me the impression that Newbury Comics is to comics as MTV is to music.

Yeah, Newbury Comics might as well be Newbury Records.
For the record, it did have comics, I just didn't like the general atmosphere

Absolutely right, but there's nothing hateable about newb's whatsoever. I was there yesterday and they're selling District 9 on blu-ray for 11 dollars. They are above reproach Kate!

That is cool, no doubt, but the atmosphere was just not one where I felt comfortable. Plus, I was all alone in the big city and the store is kind of cave like and intimidating, as far as I recall. I'd probably have felt more at ease if I'd had friends to go with. By myself I felt very self conscious exploring and browsing around
post #43 of 55
The Newbury's around here seems to have 50% music/DVDs, 45% fodder for yard sales in 5 years*, and 5% actual sequential art with word balloons and everything.

*You know the shit. Twilight crap, Christopher Walken shirts, Family Guy crap, snarky buttons, etc. Sort of shit you used to find in Spencer's before that became more of a retailer for big pewter dragons battling lava lamps or some shit.
Oh god... I can't stop reading these. I have to get back to work!

I love these caricatures and how they almost always have spit coming out.

Several people have suggested that I do something like this for the customers that came into our convenience store. I always thought it was a fun idea. I was just too lazy to actually do it.

This is either cute or hilariously pathetic, depending on the kid's age.

He's probably 35.
Wow. These sum up perfectly why I don't go to my local store anymore.

Princess Kate, Newbury Comics, is...Awesome. At, least to me. They have a great selection of comics, trades and dvds. I bought...region 1 Azumi there. They have good prices too. I do miss, Tower Records, before they went out of business. Did you ever go to...Sonsie's? That is an...Awesome, Coffee Shop, in the back bay.
