New Dune film in trouble.

Good. I hope it doesn't get made. At least not the way they wanted to.

They would be fools to try this anyway, because it's about as profitable a project as throwing a basket of money into the Grand Canyon.

I should have bet some money that this would not get off the ground. It just seemed obvious that this would not happen. I just don't think this can be made in to a great film. Lynch did his thing with it some love it some hate it but everyone agrees it is not very faithful and has problems. The TV mini was faithful...and boring as hell. It's been tried twice in our life time...let it go.

Good call on the mini-series, it was very boring. Maybe it's better to NOT adhere so close to the source. The first three books are beyond glorious, but don't lend well to cinematic translation. It's one of the reasons why I love Lynch's so much, because it isn't entirely faithful.

As I said before, this needs to be a LOTR sized gamble undertaken by very talented, obsessed and crazy people, for me to be interested.

I have a soft spot for the Children of Dune miniseries.

Agreed.

At the same time tho, I simply do not believe, after the triumph of Jacksons adaptation of the 'unfilmable' LOTR that Dune couldn't be done justice on film at some point down the line.

No surprise at this news. Just like I've been saying:

The studio has no idea how to insert all the wisecracks and pop culture references.

In light of how the final Harry Potter book is being handled, it's kinda hilarious that the final Dune novel is already split into two parts.
