Call of Duty: Black Ops - Page 3

Fuck this game. The first week I had it, multiplayer froze the PS3 six times. Also constantly having trouble connecting to matches, and get dropped from about every third one.

And apparently the new 1.04 patch is a nightmare on the PS3. I see on other forums many reports of multiplayer being unplayable and the game freezing the console even with people who had zero problems before.

Ok, yeah, I jumped the gun on saying it worked. Ahahaha! It did work fine once the patch was initially installed. Now I get disconnected from every match I get into. I'll just go back to MW2 on the PC.

It's funny because I am the opposite. I get toasted on MW2, but I can hold my own on this, finally getting some decent killstreaks going. In MW2 I get crushed on a regular basis.

New update and I had no problems tonight.

Keeping a 1:1 ratio is a good game for me.

I haven't ever played any of these, but I'm getting better since I've started playing online with my son. I try to strive for the 1:1 as well. I'll get on a kill streak of 3-4 guys, and as soon as I declare that I'm getting better, I get waxed like 4 times straight.

got this today. only played the first SP level and really enjoyed it.

Did a couple of MP matches and I gotta say, i like it. I can actually see people in this game rather then like MW2 i'd walk right past people without seeing a thing.

I haven't played a millisecond of single player, but this is easily the best of the series since 4 in multiplayer, probably the second best in the series. Great game.

 

Getting a team together to fight bots is surprisingly fun, too, especially when the bots have the names of people on your friends' list(has this been done before? Such a simple thing that adds so much). Too bad the XP doesn't carry over, but it's a great way to learn the maps/guns/killstreaks when you're starting up.

I'm surprised you guys dug the single player so much.  Black Ops is my least favorite COD game (having only played MW1 & 2 prior to this).  It's most likely due to the novelty wearing off, but even at only ~6 hours I grew extremely weary of the (seemingly) on-rails gameplay and infinitely respawning enemies until you push up to a predetermined point.  When it ended the only thing I could think of was "finally!".  For me it also lacked the memorable moments of the two MW games (specifically the first one: opening ship raid, nuke blast, the entirety of "all ghillied up").   Multiplayer is a blast - even though this is my first online foray into console shooters since the original Rainbow 6 Vegas and I'm getting waxed repeatedly.

Nope, yo'ure not the only one.  The single player is fucking awful.  Made it about halfway, gave up.  The endless respawning, forced single path (and sometimes not all too clear) progression, and the sheer uselessness of your never-advancing teammates makes the single player missions a chore.  Plus, every single time there's any semblance of immersion, there's a cutaway to the damned torture chair again.

I like the Kane and Lynch 2 map, a great design.

Played this on the pc the past couple of days. Holy cats the auto-aim on the consoles is so noticeable. Only thing that I have to get used to on the pc is the quirky rules some of the servers have set up. Just weird to be told not to run, or only aim down the sights, or no crouching or proning, or no jumping, or have xxx perk enabled/disabled (even though said perk is part of the default kit selection). Their servers, their rules - which I can respect - but it's just fucking weird seeing that. At least in BF you could jump in and start murdering right off the bat.

 

This, good god this.  I adore the Infinity Ward games (I still play MW2 from time to time, when the mood strikes), but I had a similar problem with World at War, and thus refrained from buying that title. It just felt "wrong."   Was planning on doing the same for Black Ops, but after months of friends hounding me about how awesome it is, I relented and picked up a copy the other day.  Biggest case of buyer's remorse I've had for a video game in a long time.  I just can't get into it at all.  Honestly, I'm considering just taking the 30 dollar loss and trading it in towards Portal 2.

Boo.  I kick a fair amount of ass in Black Ops MP, but tend to be middling to fair in MW2 MP.

For you prestige types, what happens next? I figure the weapons reset, and you get a fancy icon, but do you lose all the challenges and cash? Other then "because you can", where's the point of it? I think that a dbl xp is coming up on the 5th, and I'm ready to go and a dbl xp weekend will help me regain some levels in a hurry.

I rarely play the zombie maps, but this looks fun.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, YAY NEW ZOMBIE MAPS! On the other, I was really hoping for more Dempsey and Nikolai shenanigans. This map was hinted at in Kino Der Toten, but made it seem like it would be a classic WWII style map, hence why I thought it would be those characters. 

Been playing this a lot recently on XBOX because I can't play Killzone or Bad Company 2 due to the PSN being down.

 

I couldn't be arsed to finish the single player. I was enjoying it but theres something about it that just isn't sticking to me. I really like the voice acting this time around. I always joke and say it's Sam Worthingtons best performance.

 

I really don't see why people complain about Black Ops multiplayer. It's more balanced than other COD titles from what I can remember and the game runs fantastic. I like the pacing a lot more than the stupidly fast MW2, and as far as multiplayer maps go it has the best of both worlds. It's got the small COD style maps and some huge Battlefield esque maps. I play a lot better in BO than MW2.

 

 Pretty much - you also get access to up to 5 additional custom class setups and some other goodies (new skins/camo for guns).  I'm on my 8th prestige and do it just to keep that carrot dangling.   I also dig going for the pro-perks (although I didn't get Ghost Pro until I was level 48 in my last prestige.  I exclusively play TDM and couldn't get the opposing team to drop a sentry gun if my life depended on it).

I hate going for Ghost Pro because of that sentry gun, almost as much as finally destroying a sentry gun only to find out you aren't playing a class with ghost as a perk ><.  I guess it's back to domination for a while with sentry gun perks to drop for the enemy.
