Drat! I was kind of intrigued by the possibility of Mr Emmerich bringing his trademark grand spectacle to a genre like found footage. It could have made for an interesting combination

PS: Earlier this afternoon I was thinking about found footage, and wondered if you could ever make a compelling drama or romantic film that was shot under the guise of being 'found footage', composed of film supposedly shot on cell phone cam by the characters

Could it be a new way to tell old stories, and make for a compelling experience on a small scale?

Or is found footage a gimmick that needs large scale and over the top events in order to be worthwhile?
