Your favourite Muppet - Page 2

The Muppet's tonight doesn't get enough love if you ask me. Any show that can convince Pierce Brosnan to dress up as Giant Prawn for a Bond parody gets my vote.

That and the gameshow with "Carl The Big Mean Bunny" .

Sam the Eagle always held a special place in my heart as a wee child. I guess I always saw him as a spot on piss take of authority figures that kids have to dealt with...

One of my favorite Muppet Show bits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iCVmKN5At_o

I hope in the new film that Sam is a pundit for a cable news network.

I sort of love The Swedish Chef. He's clearly insane, but revels in it. The creepy hands definitely add to his appeal.

My close second has to be Fozzie.

Does anyone hate Dr. Bunsen Honeydew for hurting poor Beaker all the time?

Growing up I had a Kermit doll that had velcro on the hands and feet. My sister and I used to wrap the arms and legs around a ceiling fan blade, turn it on and lay on the floor until Kermit was flung somewhere across the room.

This was almost as hilarious as throwing handfuls of cotton balls into an already moving ceiling fan and watching the puffs explode around the room.

Ooh, was it the one from Great Muppet Caper with his reporter trench coat? I had that! Actually, I think it may still be at my parents' house somewhere.

No trench coat. This doll.

Ah, I was talking about this one:

My big sister bought it for me.

I watched THE GREAT MUPPET CAPER a while ago, and in the scene where Miss Piggy steals a motorbike to race to Kermit's rescue, there are a few absolutely horrifying moments where they just filmed a stuntman in a Miss Piggy costume hauling ass down a road at 150mph. It straddles the delicate boundaries between fantasy and reality, to blood-curdling effect.

And Kermit is the best Muppet. No question. An absolute angel of a puppet.

i was never mad keen on Kermit, he was the heart of the show but fairly bland - plus his voice just aint right.

I always had a soft spot for Sweetums the monster, y'know the one that looks like Bruce Vilanch?

This makes you a bad person. Not quite Hitler bad, but close.

That said, Kermit's eyes are a little unsettling.

My favorite is probably Animal. He's a beast (natch) and he plays drum for the band with the best name in history: Dr. Teeth and The Electric Mayhem.

Just found this on Youtube. One of Jim Henson's last interviews. Kermit shows up. So does Clifford, who then discusses spankings with Arsenio Hall. Awesome.

Muppets: Animal, followed closely by the Swedish Chef.

Sesame Street: Oscar the Grouch, hands down.

I probably preferred him on Sesame Street doing the breaking news stuff.

That said, there are so many others that come close seconds and thirds to these guys that it's a very hard pick.

...and someone mentioned Gonzo singing 'Back There' in The Muppet Movie - god damn to this day. Tears. Just floods of tears.

Henson had the direct line to my soul frankly.

What Dog said... every damn word (except about the name thing).

Plus, Gonzo and Grover both looks aces in capes. And I respect that.

I kind of proud of the fact that it was ITV (speciffcally) Lew Grade that funded this show. And that it was filmed in Elstree studios.

....and while it's such an obvious choice that no one ever picks him, the older I get the more I appreciate Kermit. The perfect straight man and ringleader, the little green guy was like Jim Hensons personality distilled down into frog form.

Part of me thinks they should have stopped using Kermitt when Henson died because as RD say's he pretty much is Henson.

I will always love Beaker as he is hilarious as that the unfortunate lab assistant who always gests victimized by Honeydew's experiments gone wrong. Plus, his voice is awesome. MEEP-MEEP.

It's really hard for me to choose between Kermit, Piggy, Animal, Beaker, Swedish Chef, or Waldorf and Statler. Those last few are all basically one joke characters, but the joke never gets old. I love all of these, but after watching "The Muppets Take Manhattan" again recently, for the moment my favourite is Rowlf. That scene where he's in the dog pound is one of the funniest, most clever parts of the movie. I love those jokes about an animal character who acts and thinks more like a human (i.e. all of the Muppets) being treated like an animal by a human (like they used to do with Brian on "Family Guy"). Rowlf was priceless in that scene, talking about how humiliated he was being treated like a dog, but then unable to resist howling with the other dogs about being homesick. biggrin.gif

Cooler-than-you obscure choice: The Martians. Yipyipyipyip, uhuh, uhuh.

But yeah, Kermit rules. It's his frustration that speaks to me.

Thirding "I Want To Go Back There Someday." Imagine writing a song like that and giving it to Gonzo.

Muppet: Kermit by a mile.

Sesame Street: Elmo will always have my heart.  He's just so damn adorable.

As per H-H 'cooler than you obscure choice' - Lou Zeeland just becuase his name cracks me up and the fact that he juggles fish is golden.  Marvin Suggs with the Muppafone (I had the muppet show LP as a kid and I used to love that 'ow, ow, ow , ow, owwwww').

Main characters though probably Rolf (because of the Doctor gags - 'Dr Bob, Dr Bob - the patient is gone', 'that's funny - he was under the sheets a minute ago')

So much of my Muppet memories are based on that LP.  First record I ever had and I played it constantly.  Gatefold sleeve too.  I also had some Smurfs LPs but apart from Smurfing Beer I don't recall any of the tunes so Muppets is my top childhood one.

Ahhh.  Must try to get the oldest to watch the Muppet Show DVD again.  Happy days.

Kermit singing "Lydia The Tattooed Lady" is one of the high points of that album.

When I took one of those "What Muppet are you?" tests online years ago, it put me as Fozzie, which I was good with.  My favorite ones to watch were Swedish Chef, Dr. Bunsen Honeydew & Beaker, and Statler & Waldorf.

Favorite Sesame Street character has got to be Grover.  Although I feel like Oscar the Grouch on many days.  Including the living in a trash can thing, cause my house is mess most of the time.

Also, speaking of Sam the Eagle--anyone wonder if Squidward is a nod to Sam?  I feel like they're very similar characters.  Hell, they're both even blue.  And I think that guy that does the news reports was Guy Smiley.  Is that right?  I know he hosted lots of game show bits.

Don't know my favorite individual felt character, but my favorite Muppet-related project  is Kermit's spin-off rock band, Molly Hatchet.

Yeah, Guy Smiley was the all-purpose TV host on Sesame Street. I only realized this years later, but Henson transferred a lot of Guy's mannerisms to Kermit for The Muppet Show.

Rowlf the Dog!

From Muppets Tonight:

And there's no way I can pick a favorite Muppet.  One of the reasons the Muppets are such a solid idea is that every single character gets their own moments.  There's not a single Muppet I can think of that I hate, though a few that were created for Muppets Tonight I could live without (I'm looking at YOU Spamela Hamderson!).  But Muppets Tonight also gave us Bill the Bubble Head Guy.  "I'm Bill.  Bubbles come out of my head, see?"  I love a good ridiculous concept.  It kills me how quickly that show got written off.
