For shits/giggles:

http://chud.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-5061.html

Me, Drew, Nick, Devin, Micah, Matchstick and the great Michael Bay going around and around on my "scoop" of Dino denying AICN's scoop that Michael Bay and Nic Cage were doing "Red Dragon" back in '01.

And I'll bet Drew was totally on the money, too.

Wow. Old school.

And R.I.P. Dino. *holds hat over heart*

Back in 2003, I went to Universal Studios with my family and on the tour I saw his parking space. That was awesome. Seriously.

Great piece, the man was a true legend.

Wow, that totally reminded me of the same. My first job in Los Angeles was working for Jewish dating site JDate.com and we were in the same building on Wilshire as DEG. I'd pass his parking space - on P1, right next to the elevators - every day on the way to my P4 slot and have Hollywood dreams. He built this huge, beautiful screening room on the first floor of the building and later, as a reporter, whenever there were the occasional indie film screening there, you'd get this cool vibe of being in Dino's old private screening room.

Heh. When I was in college, a few friends and I answered a call to be "Kong" extras, and when we got the lot, damned if there wasn't the full-size Kong there. Of course, it didn't do any of the crap he said it was going to, but it was impressive to see.

Apparently my insensitive headline has sent four or five of our readers away forever. I'm aware of this because my mother texted me about the angry talkback comments.

We were all so young then. Back when the Internet was in black and white.

That's really cool! Getting to see movies in his old screening room sounds awesome. Also getting to work in the same building as his company.

Disco may be dead, but it's still awesome to listen to. People can be so thin skinned.

I can only hope that when I die, someone will write about it using a snarky headline. I'm not being sarcastic.

The piece you wrote was great. And the kneejerk reactions remind me of how much I hate having to come up with headlines -- too many people don't even bother to read beyond them even when they're great.

Yeah, if anyone wrote a piece on me, I wouldn't mind the headline if the writing and picture inside were as great as the piece Renn wrote.

91 years old after a life succinctly summarized as "he was Dino de Laurentiis". Nothing else to say, except "way to go".
He's been such a towering behemoth of a figure throughout my film watching life I never really considered him dying some day.

In response to the overreactions to the article title in the comments section, I will quote the late, great Warren Oates:

" Lighten up, Francis! "

Gonna have to watch Manhunter now in memory of DEG at it's best. (Watched Blue Velvet again night before last so that's out.) Might follow it up with Barbarella or Danger: Diabolik for the chaser. [R.I.P.]

Loved the headline but man, was that lede buried. Or was that kinda the point, being an obituary?
Flash Gordon has always been one of my favorite movies. This is sad news for me.
That's a big bummer. Looks like its time to watch Flash Gordon and well...everything else.

Nice write-up Renn.
