BLU-RAY REVIEW: SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD

Thread Starter
Scott Pilgrim plays bass, is awkwardly in love, and sees his world as a video game. One of the best and biggest technical achievements of the year comes home in a jam packed, must-own blu-ray package.

Who will be the first to claim that I'm too kind to the film?

ME!

Just so I can steal the thunder from someone who means it.

This disc is almost exhaustively stacked. And the DVD that comes with it isn't too shabby on the extra features either. I love (and found myself overwhelmed) the hour's worth of pre-production animatics and storyboards. For someone trying to work in a similar field, it's very educational.

I especially loved the montage of the slow-motion footage they shot with the Phantom camera. That was just really fun to see.

I was pretty entertained by the way Aubrey Plaza snarked it up in the commentary track as if she couldn't shake off the Julie Powers character (intentionally or not).

Hey Nooj, I bought the blu! My third!

From a script standpoint, I'd rank it well below Shaun and Fuzz, but direction-wise Wright is totally amazing here. Hot Fuzz has some good stuff, but I'm now quite impressed with Wright's action chops. Super fun movie. Having watched it a few times now, Evans still steals the show for me.

Agreed they should have done a PIP and combined the cast from the 3rd and 4th commentaries. I'm listening to the 4th right now and it's really weak compared to the 3rd.

Third, eh? That will become well over 50 so quickly without you even trying!

Wish all the dvd reviews on here covered the special features to such an exhaustive degree. Great coverage sir; Knaves Chow stole a good giggle too.

Never!

I'm too poor.

I passed well over 50 after resolving not to do with blu-rays what I did with DVDs!

Not me, either... it's spot on.

This is an amazing review, sir- nailed exactly what makes both the film and blu-ray special. It's the first blu-ray I've preordered and is just an amazing, stacked set. Really digging your reviews here!

Thanks for the kind words, Alex.
It's sad that the comments on the review don't understand the difference between "the site" reviewing a film and an independent reviewer who genuinely loves a film.
