Not to mention, Gorillaz are a multi-platinum selling group consisting totally of cartoon characters. Every country has its own set of fabricated pop stars; Japan is just more upfront about it, while we get that thing called Justin Beiber.

Funnily enough I seem to remember Gibson describing something similar to an iPod touch in Idoru, or am I thinking of something else?

Disney has been manufacturing replicant pop stars for years. You're falling behind, Japan!

But isn't the difference here that it is COMPLETELY fabricated? The Gorillaz, Disney, etc. examples at least have real people giving performances. This is the ultimate extension of electronic music. Now we have electronic vocals with no singer needed.

With Gorillaz, the real band and singers are actually performing. With this hologram it is a synthesized voice creation (not sure if it being created on the fly or a recording, but at that point, does it matter?).

Regardless, as a fan of electronic music, I have no issue with this, but paying to see it performed seems a little odd since there is no real performance.

I guess this is the equivalent of a recorded orchestra playing over a laser light show? But people don't generally get so excited about that.
