Nothing good's happening to the City of Angels in this teaser.

So all these movies are because of District 9, right?
This is what a Halo movie should've been.

Fixed that for you (sorry to engage in these kind of word replacement hijinks)

Anyway, just posting to say I've not been following this film closely but those stills are intriguing and that poster is one of my favorite posters of the year. Really stark, frightening and daring IMHO

I'm reposting it here because I love it so:

Wow, that's a pretty nice teaser. Loved the moody, droning song on top of the apocalyptic warfare imagery.

Skyline doesn't appear to give much competition in the sub-genre. According to the first reviews appearing online the film is cancerously awful.
almost thought this was an announcement that American McGee would be doing the licensed video game.

Loved the teaser. Did everything it should, and I always dig it when there is no voiceover and little or no dialogue. Got chills when the alien rose up behind the male soldier.

Hope the film lives up to the promise shown here.

My mind might be messing with me, But I thought this had been greenlit and was deep into in pre-production/casting when DISTRICT 9 hit.

Does anyone know how much SHANE BLACK was involved with this?
I remember reading about how he did some work on the script.

Yeah, these guys were actually really ahead of the game with this one but it was never fast-tracked- it just sort of went through the normal glacial Hollywood production path.

That abrupt Peter Berg-hosted "emergency" set-visit Devin and the other LA people went on for Battleship actually hit the day we were on set and you could tell the producers were kind of in a tizzy about it.

Princess Kate, I don't know if you know this, but that image on the poster is from an actual event that happened during WW2 (at least I think it was WW2...it DID happen during SOME war, I know this). My recollection of the details are a little foggy, so I apologize, but during the war, American troops stationed in America spotted something flying in the night sky and, since they were all a little twitchy back then, started firing on the thing. The image on poster is of spotlights trying to find the thing in the sky.

Back to the trailer...it would have been nice to get SOME clear image of what they were fighting. At least in the Skyline trailer you knew they were fighting aliens. In this one you honestly have no idea. We're never given more than a few shaky frames that could have been just about anything. With the obvious exception of the ships floating over the city, but even that wasn't clear enough.

This looks really great. There's some very striking imagery in this trailer. I'm quite excited.

.

Thanks for that info, it's good to know! The reason I found the poster so evocative is it called to mind images of the London Blitz ETC and other old fashioned air raids. Mixing that imagery with an alien invasion is neat marketing

Looks terrific.

So, Skyline is terrible, eh? Shit.

Looks great.
There's a second teaser available:

Damn. Liking the newsreel/documentary feel to that trailer, too.

It's made by the people behind AVP2. Did you expect District 9, perhaps?

I love District 9 beyond words, but to be fair, having directed AvP is a better resume (on paper) than being the guy who got fired from a Halo movie.

Same here.

Small quibble "Over 1400 anti-aircraft rounds were fired by US military (with apparently a little assist from the Wehrmacht!)"

Huh? The Battle of Los Angeles, I'm pretty sure the Wehrmacht weren't involved.

Well, I knew next to nothing about this film, now I can't wait to see it. Bravo.
Had heard nothing of this. Almost didn't even check out the trailer link. Looks fantastic from an action/direction standpoint. Hope the rest is just as good.
Looks good.
Very good.

And, Michelle Rodriguez.

I just watched the first trailer again in the high-def, full screen mode and my opinion has totally changed! Love it! Looks really awesome, and a kind of unique way to do the genre.

Though I must say, I'm kind of sick of movie trailers telling me that nothing can prepare me for blah, blah, blah. I think I'm in a good place in my life and more than fully prepared to watch L.A. get the shit blown out of it by aliens.
While that is a nice trailer I have heard that the script is absolutely wretched and that Mr. Texas Chainsaw Prequel was the man to helm this because he didn't demand rewrites or anything.

All of which eventually inspired Spielberg's 1941.

Well a lot of people from the town that this image was taken saw the object and believed it to be a U.F.O. And the government hasn't commented on it since then either. That's why it's such a good image.

Late pass, but that's some effective trailer there. The song makes all the difference, though.

My only trepidation now is how unconventional the movie is when it's not cut real pretty.
Agree about the song. That really does look like Independence Day by way of District 9.

I liked it, but I gotta say in terms of tone it didn't match that trailer. It read simple, straight forward. The trailer seems to go for great tragedy and emotions whereas on paper it's (just) a pretty non-stop action flick. A Call of Duty movie with aliens.
It definitely looks striking, but then these films often do. I'm with-holding judgement but still hopeful. Love a good alien invasion flick - there just aren't very many of them.
I like this one. Certainly a far better trailer than anything of Skyline's.
Looks great. I dig the marketing approach here, echoes of D9 or not.
I gotta buck the trend here and say this looks like boring old hat shit that's been done and done again. Or maybe it's just that title, the most boring and uninspired in history. Like some generic product you'd buy at the supermarket.

Sorry to be a Debbie Downer. Continue with the happy.

Sci-fi Hurt Locker. I'm in.

This one. Black Hawk Down was the buzz-title on the set from everyone.
That's also a pretty accurate description for it.

Thanks for putting the song from the trailer in the article, Renn. Downloaded that great song from iTunes a while ago.

This movie is must see for me. Especially since it's got the lovely Michelle Rodriguez.
When was Michelle Rodriguez born?

I have a suspicion it was 9 months after the day Aliens premiered.
