Listened to thewarfreak's mix this morning, very good. The only songs I had heard were Ocean Man, Don't Think Twice (It's Alright), and Tell Her No. My favorites were probably Good Thing It's A Ghost Town Around Here, Only Sixteen, and Is There A Ghost.
Glad you liked it!

So excited when I opened the mail today to find Steve's mix waiting for me.

I've listened to it once and it's pretty rad. You did a fantastic job Steve keeping everything cohesive and fluid. REALLY dig Atom & His Package. Awesome song. I had a smile on my face when I saw the James Brown tune listed. One of the many funk artists I've been meaning to get into recently.

Here's the tracklist:

1. Opening Statement - The Silent Groove
2. Jaws 3, People 0 - A Wilhelm Scream
3. Not for Anyone - Hot Water Music
4. Musta' Got Lost (Live) - J. Geils Band
5. Try Me (Live) - James Brown
6. Flame to Fuse (Live) - The Silent Groove
7. You Got Me - The Roots (feat. Erykah Badu)
8. Stomp - The Brothers Johnson
9. 01 Difference - Childish Gambino
10. The Narrows - As Tall As Lions
11. Cataract - Sparta
12. Enough of Nothing - Cody ChesnuTT
13. I Am Downright Amazed... - Atom & His Package
14. Yeah Yeah Brother - Black Grape
15. Heat Miser - Massive Attack
16. The Flame Deluge - Thrice
17. Sleeping Beauty - Patrick Watson
18. Cannon - Zox

Will do. Any other essential James Brown albums you'd recommend?
Live at the Apollo Vol. 2 is just spectacular. The Let Yourself Go/There Was a Time/I Feel Alright/Cold Sweat Jam is an absolute stunner. The only other live record that could compete with it is Live at the Olympia, Paris 1971. Bootsy on Bass and Catfish Phelps on Guitar, Phelps in particular delivers one of the most epic guitar solos ever recorded on Ain't it Funky Now.
Nathan's suggestions are spot-on.

If they leave you hungry for more, look for the recent 2-disc reissue of James Brown Live At The Garden... which was actually recorded at a small club in New Jersey (the original LP was released in order to hype interest in his upcoming appearance at Madison Square Garden, hence the misleading name). The new album is cleaned up, properly sequenced, and adds unreleased material so you get two full evenings' worth of shows, an amazingly intimate recorded sound, and maybe the most ecstatic audience you'll ever hear on a live album.
Thanks for the suggestions gentlemen!

It's a shame Jerry Reed will be remembered more for his role in Smokey and the Bandit because he's a brilliant guitar player.

Posting Steve's today. Steve, don't mock me for my lack of packaging and cover art/design, etc. Hopefully I'll make up for it in tunes. Sorry it's a magnum opus. I have an editing problem.

Downloaded Louris's the other day and it's reeeeeally good, thanks dude. Thanks especially for reminding me how awesome the Poises are.
I got Ray's, and it not only will be great to listen to, it looks like it'll be a nice accompaniment at the gym later on today. I'll post the list of titles later on.

I'm putting the finishing touches on S.I.M.'s playlist. I've making him a really pretentious concept album about the destruction of the world. You know, to fit the Christmas season and all that.

Mine's all about the Rapture, so we're of the same mind. I tried my damnedest to avoid a theme, but I just...couldn't...resist.

It's cool man I didn't do anything for Ray but a track listing. I lack the artistic skills necessary to make something competent. I'm just excited for some good tunes!

You're in for one hell of a treat, Steve. Parker really does go all out with his mixes.

I do!

I also have to confess that I totally stole a piece from Louris's intro for Steve. It was the last thing I put in. I just couldn't resist.

Here's the concept album that I made for Suitably Ironic Moniker:

END OF LINE

1. 'Overture' by Dream Theater
2. 'Veteran of the Psychic Wars' by Blue Oyster Cult
3. 'Flying in a Blue Dream' by Joe Satriani
4. 'Machine Messiah' by Yes
5. 'For the Love of God' by Steve Vai
6. 'Computer God' by Dio
7. 'Tunnel Vision' by John Petrucci
8. 'Machines (or Back to Humans) by Queen
9. 'the Hellion' by Judas Priest
10. 'Electric Eye' by Judas Priest
11. 'Acid Rain' by Liquid Tension Experiment
12. 'NM156' by Queensryche
13. 'Dirt from a Holy Place' by O.S.I.
14. 'Red Sector A' by Rush
15. 'The Dance of Eternity' by Dream Theater
16. 'Son of the Sun' by Therion
17. 'Prelude to Battlle' by Derek Sherinian
18. 'Ceremony' by Joe Satriani
19. 'The Hero' by Queen
20. 'God of War' by Derek Sherinian
21. 'O Fortuna (Carl Orff Cover)' by Therion

Tracks 1 - 3: Countless wars have laid waste to humanity. The Earth is a hollow shell and humanity is lost.
Tracks 4 - 6: Man, seeking guidance, turns to the machines for direction. The machines become the new GODS.
Tracks 7 - 8: Man becomes disillusioned with their new Gods after years of servitude. A quiet rebellion forms.
Tracks 9 - 11: The machines start to fight back. War begins, and humanity is rounded up to be used as slaves.
Tracks 12 - 14: Humanity starts to die in the prison camps. The population shrinks and comes close to extinction.
Tracks 15 - 16: A hero arises amongst the men! He leads humanity to battle against the machines.
Tracks 17 - 18: THE BIG BATTLE
Tracks 19 - 21: Humanity is victorious and the hero is praised in his victory.

Oh yes, it's very pretentious.

You all are a bunch of creative mofos. Me? I just put together a disc of songs that make me inexpressably happy. Which brings me to my next point: thewarfreak (and Louris), your disc(s) are going out in today's mail.

Judas, only a hardcore Rush fan would conceptualize a mix like that. That's a compliment.

Hey Parker, I got your CD's. I'm only on disc one so far but I'm really enjoying it. I'll report back once I've been able to spend some time with them all.

I'll post more detail when I have some time, but let me just say that I strongly advise you to get CD's sent to you by Ray Abed.

Yall should e-mail Louris because his mix is the shit. I even sneaked in a few of his songs in what I sent Steve at the last minute and considered at least another one until I realized that was probably cheating! It was that good...

Thanks again, man.

Parker are you inside my head? Because it occurred to me during disc two just how much you caught my musical wavelength on these CD's.

No problem, I'm really glad you liked it. Not the most ethnically diverse set of artists ever assembled though

It's a fast download on mediafire, so if anyone wants the link send me a PM.

Just finished Mattioli's mix and package and am now listening to make sure it burned correctly. All goes right, it'll be sent out later tonight.
My mix for Judas is complete and I'll be getting it to him shortly. It's a mix of cues from film scores, but not just some random collection. They're knitted together to tell a story, in what I call:

ORIGINAL MOTION PICTURE SOUNDTRACK

Below are the "titles" of the tracks. These are all that Judas is getting, with no clue as to what film they came from, so he can listen to the "story" unfold with no preconceived notions as to what the tracks represent. I do have the true titles inviso-texted for the curious though -- but NO PEEKING until you've listened, Judas!

1. Fanfare
20th Century Fox Fanfare, Alfred Newman
2. Main Titles
"Overture," Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, Michael Kamen
3. The Villain
"The Funeral," The Dark Crystal, Trevor Jones
4. The Hero
"There Can Be Only One," Highlander, Michael Kamen
5. The Love Interest
"Harry in Winter," Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, Patrick Doyle
6. The Villain Strikes
"Elk Hunt," The Last of the Mohicans, Trevor Jones
7. The Heroes Depart
"The Leaving/The Search," Conan the Barbarian, Basil Poledouris
8. The Roguish Companion
"Flying Vessel," Stardust, Ilan Eshkeri
9. The Rescue
"Pursuit (Den's Heroics)," Heavy Metal, Elmer Bernstein
10. The Escape
"Escape from the Tavern," Willow, James Horner
11. The Death of a Friend
"You Are the Pan," Hook, John Williams
12. The Return Home
"Ride the Dragon," Shrek, Harry Gregson-Williams and John Powell
13. The Forces of Evil Attack
"G's Theme I," Godzilla vs. MechaGodzilla, Michiru Oshima
14. The Heroes Strike Back
"The Day We Fight Back," Independence Day, David Arnold
15. The Tide Turns
"Charging Fort Wagner," Glory, James Horner
16. Victory
"Finale," JFK, John Williams
17. Celebration
"Coming Back Around," How to Train Your Dragon, John Powell
18. End Credits
"He-Man Triumphant and End Titles," Masters of the Universe, Bill Conti

Hope you enjoy it, Judas!
I can't wait to download this after work tonight. I won't peek at the actual titles until I at least have a SWAG as to their origin.

That's the nerdiest mix I've ever seen in my life. Pretty great.

Richard's soundtrack totally works, too. My only issue with it? The cover artwork for each tune popped up on all but 3 of the tunes when I played them...as such, there was no real guesswork involved.

Great work, Richard!
Ugh, stupid metadata!
To clarify, my 'Great Work, Richard!' comment was sincere, not a sarcastic slam over the album covers showing up. The tunes really do gel together into a nice, cohesive whole.
