Other than the static establishing shots, I don't think that Battle Royale is a film suited to be in 3D. Fukasaku used a lot of zoom lens (one of the reasons I love the film), and I thought zoom lens also tend to compress depth. Oh well, whatever.
I got to see the film at the Seattle International Film Festival not so far from its Japanese theatrical release. An amazing experience.
I got a crappy VCD off of Ebay. Later got the Korean special edition. Then got the UK steel-case special edition. Then got the NTSC released by the UK. There have always been image issues with each version, but I hope the UK blu-ray coming later this month looks gorgeous. I have it pre-ordered on AmazonUK.
