CHUD LIST: SACRED COWS OF HOLLYWOOD - DAY 15

I wouldn't switch the film we have for anything but I have to say I would've been curious to see the alternate universe version directed by Lucas. Yeah yeah I know that name is a red rag to the internet bull, but based on interviews it sounds like he had quite a specific vision for the project, wanting to make it in a pseudo-documentary style. Would've been massively different to Coppola's version, but still could've been interesting. Plus it might even have kept Lucas's momentum as a director going instead of having that side of his career permanently stopped in its tracks by Star Wars.

One of my favorite films, and this is one of the entries in the SACRED COWS series that I think truly shouldn't/couldn't be remade. I saw it for the first time as the 'REDUX' cut when I was working in a movie theater back in the day. I thought it was OK, but it was far too long to see when you're perched on uncomfortable plank like chairs. The next time I saw it I was in VIETNAM class in highschool, and while I appreciated the ambition and scope, I felt a bit removed from the drama. The whole thing seemed a bit chilly

Late last year I had to hang out at the mall for a while one night, and while I was waiting around killing time I used some of my personal funds to pick up the APOCALYPSE NOW THE COMPLETE DOSSIER DVD. It's a great set, and when I got back from the mall that night I basically fell in love with the film. I was able to appreciate it's tone and pacing in ways I couldn't when I was in highschool, and the hazy madness the film the film descends into no longer frustrated me

Anyway, great entry and like Lawrence of Arabia, I think in some ways the technical hurdles of a big scale production like this are just kind of impossible to get around these days
