Wireless network problem

Thread Starter
I am trying to install my main computer to my wireless network but I am having problems with it. I am using a network usb adaptor made by cisco (the router is also cisco) on windows xp.

Everything seems to be in order, everything says I am connected to the internet and even gives me the signal speed. However when I open firefox it does not load, it gives me the following error message

"Proxy server refused connection"

The only strange error message i am getting is when I go to network connections the local area connection has a x graphic on it and it says network cable unplugged.

My netbook and laptop connect to the internet router with no problems. Any ideas?

Futz around with your network settings, either right click the network icon in your task tray, or dig deeper into the network config screens pertaining to that "X" you are seeing...you'll be looking for the option to "Repair" your connection. I get the same problem with the wife's mac computer, running xp, and that's always fixed it for me. This is due to the ip lease expiring sometimes.

Unless you've specifically set MAC address restrictions and that's blocking you out, but try the first step.

Worse case is your router still thinks/expects it's talking to your pc through an ethernet cable. You will have to reset the router to factory settings and retrain it to look for your pc wirelessly.
