I love how this movie doesn't have any time for bullshit. No up-lifting message about inner beauty, and Miranda's heart never grows three sizes, the movie just asks you to understand her. Everyone is at the top of their game and Meryl Streep gives one of the best comedy roles of the decade, maybe ever. (I love when she can't fly out of Miami and is annoyed by the fact that people won't accommodate her because of extreme weather) I love the scene where Miranda gives that speech about how Andy's sweater isn't just a blue sweater.

Just a great, extremely watchable movie.

My wife dragged me to see it and I was pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed it quite a bit.

Aside from the stupid side love tryst with the douchebag photographer in Paris (but she and her boyfriend had totally had a fight so it's all OK!), yeah, probably one of the best "chick flicks" of the decade. Stanley Tucci would've walked off with the movie if Streep and Hathaway hadn't been fighting it from him every step of the way.

Also, this was Emily Blunt's first big exposure, and my first big exposure to Emily Blunt's ass. So it has that going for it.

While I agree on Meryl Streep's Miranda being brilliant, and I adore her monologue about the sweater, this movie irks the hell out of me because it can't decide whether it wants to moralize or cut through the bullshit.

I don't get the "You had a choice" regarding the main conflict with Andy. It's a job. You do the job. Crazy boss? Big deal, welcome to entry level positions. What does her boyfriend want? To have her at hand all the time so she won't miss important events, despite her attempts to make up for it despite having to, you know, go to work? The kind of job she signed up for requires those extra hours, be they at a party or in the office. Andy going to Paris? Miranda is the boss, and she chose Andy to go with her, because Emily Blunt's character was not performing up to snuff, sickness or no, accident or no.

The douchebag photographer kissing her at the art gallery? That I could understand her friend getting miffed at, but this whole "New Andy we don't like" bullshit? What the hell? Did she seriously look like she was enjoying it? I'm glad her friend has a gallery opening in New York, which is a major deal - I'm glad that somehow her boyfriend can afford the rent being a lowly cook/whatever for a stunning apartment.

Bitch got a job in a place where you can't be schlumping around in a sweater and unbrushed, unkempt hair. She didn't have to get all Prada-ed and Chanel-ed out, but she did have to look presentable. I haven't seen the movie in a while, but this whole attitude of .......superiority to those working at Runway left me feeling cold and pissed. You put the time in to get where you want to be, and that doesn't automatically mean selling out. In fact, I believe it is the fact she didn't follow the rules set down for dropping off the book that prompted Miranda to give her the crazy Harry Potter assignment (And her ability to pull off a seemingly impossible task, you know - do her job - that led to her being accepted by Miranda)

So fuck this movie, despite all the things it has going for it (Streep, Tucci, etc).

That's a problem I have with the film as well. Her one friend sure was all on board when Andy's job got her a free purse, but then suddenly they're all "Oh my god, you've changed, you're wanting more than just hanging out with us all day and being there for your boyfriend!" Really felt like some doctored up conflict.
