What the fuck...Cats vs Dogs 2 isn't even animated. By that account Avatar should have been nominated for best animated.

Might as just be two slots, as everyone already knows this is probably a two-man race between Toy Story and Dragon.

An animated feature film is defined as a motion picture with a running time of more than 40 minutes, in which movement and characters’ performances are created using a frame-by-frame technique. Motion capture by itself is not an animation technique. In addition, a significant number of the major characters must be animated, and animation must figure in no less than 75 percent of the picture’s running time.
So yes, had they submitted in the category, Avatar would indeed have been eligible. EDIT: Missed the mo-cap part, they may have kept it out of the running. But it certainly applies to Cats and Dogs.

Third place for me:

Despicable Me

Don't count The Illusionist out.

I didn't see that one, shoot.

Don't count out Disney putting a hell of a lot of muscle behind Tangled, especially if it's a hit.

Early reviews on Tangled have been VERY positive...

I really can't wait to see the Illusionist.

Much as I enjoyed TS3 and How To Train... NO WAY they are better than The Illusionist- which is flat out brilliant, and not only because it's a Tati script. If Triplettes De Belleville (from the same makers) got an Oscar, this one definitely should get one since it's simply a much better film.

Clips that I've seen from Dreams of Jinsha look simply stunning in a Miyazaki way... so that's two.

But right, who're we kidding. TS3 it will be. They really should split up this category in 'digital' (which includes most American blockbusters- I mean come on, Despicable Me and Megamind are competing here??) and 'traditional/handdrawn', which seems to be where the non-commercial stuff seems to be. It's apples & oranges comparing TS3 to Bill Plympton.

I've heard that Summer Wars is an excellent film and on my must see list.

I have totally missed any word of The Illusionist. And I count myself a fan of animation.

I'm in the minority here but I like Legend of the Guardians. Not enough for it to take home an Oscar, but enough for a nom.

ETA: Ah! So Jacques Tati wrote the screenplay! Color me interested.

I will require convincing. The trailers so far have contained so many hateful things.

Yeah, so far all I'm seeing is Shrek 5.
