Nope.

...but then I was convinced rumours of a Spiderman Musical were ridiculous as well so what do I know.

Really the only live action Batman tv series news I want is
"Coming to DVD and Bluray- the 60s Batman tv show!"

The TOWERING POWER for Right and Justice has held back for too long.

I simply do not believe WB would do this. There's too much money to be made from the films; having a well-done live action version PLUS a separate film series would not give them good ROI, methinks. Why pay for what you can see for free (or, at worst, as part of a cable/satellite package)?

I can't believe there will be a Batman series, unless it's done similiar to Smallville as a prequel to when he becomes The Bat. Not sure they can get the numbers with the younger crowd unless they do.

Or it could turn out to be Batman: Birds of Prey, or it could be awesome. Who knows?

I'm not sure I can handle 10 seasons of Bruce Wayne: Not Quite Batman.

I would love an expensive Batman series on HBO. Take the Aronofsky Wolverine example and just do standalone adventures, swapping out directors, tone, whatever. It would be a nice break after Nolan's run concludes and cleanse the palate in anticipation of the next reboot. It'd be a ton of fun, done properly.

I still say a Shield/Wire-esque GOTHAM PD procedural is the way to go. Guest-starring Bats and the villain of the week.

I was about to say exactly this, and add that it should take the cue from that Gotham Central comic book, and have the tone be treated like it would be your average Homicide: Life on the Street episode(which inspired the comic in the first place).

I mean, damn, it took one of Batman's silliest villians(Mad Hatter, to be played by Rik Mayall if I had my drothers), and crafted a real riveting story around him.

I'd imagine WB's post-The Dark Knight Rises plans involve Batman 4? Fuckin' Comic Book Movie.

I watched BEGINS last night - hadn't actually sat down and watched it for years, I think - and I have to agree. A Gordon- or cop-centric show, with Batman as a shadowy force for good lurking in the background, could really be awesome. Hollywood knows how to do cop shows, and adding the extra elements could make for some great crime stories.

Won't happen, though.

Phils right. To make it work you're going to need a budget and a network willing to give the creator/director control. So that rounds it out to FX, AMC, HBO and Showtime. Not that it's ever going to even happen but I guarantee everyone here would be on the edge of their seats if something like this was officially announced. With the gallery of villains Batman has there is no shortage of material to turn into a 10-13 episode season.

Exactly. When you get one movie every 3-4 years, you kind of want them to "count", and don't want them to waste a movie on a third tier villain, but a 10 episode series on pay cable? I want to see all the crazy lower-rung dudes we never get in movies.

Switch out Gordon for Renee Montoya and that's essentially the premise of the beloved but under-read and long since cancelled comic, GOTHAM CENTRAL, the fans of which would be very happy if it became a TV series.

Edit: As previously mentioned by Walker.

Huh. Not being a comics reader, I had no idea! I can see why that wouldn't be a big seller for the comic format, but it would be aces as a regular show. Hell, maybe even a series of short TV movies - say 3-4 a year (equivalent to 6-8 episodes).

And I think Oldman is doing a highly underrated job as Gordon in the Nolan films. The casting still drops the jaw when you stop and think about it.
What's interesting about Oldman is that he was apparently (and justifiably) extremely dissatisifed with the what they did with him in Batman Begins and attempted to get out of his contract for sequels, but his attorney advised against it. I don't know if he spoke to Nolan or what, but it's obvious that the director realized that the character of Gordon needed to be worked on a bit, and that's how we arrive at TDK.

If you notice, Oldman's role isn't simply expanded, it's altered; he's got this "authoritative accent" thing going on in Batman Begins, that is toned way down in TDK.
I'd read, second- or third-hand, that he wanted out, but am very glad he did not exit the series. If true, also very glad Nolan did more with him.

I do remember reading an interview with Oldman, between the films, where he remarked that Gordon was the character most like him in real life, and that he had taken the gig as a means to be with his kids more regularly (they paid well, apparently).

The third film is set up very well for an almost co-starring role for Oldman; whatever the ending, it seems like the story's going to have to show us how Gordon and Wayne/Batman handle the perception of a murdering Batman while not actually capturing him.

Gary Oldman is one of the greatest true actors working today. So glad to see him really be a huge part of one of the biggest trilogys of all time. He truely deserves it, and needs to be an even bigger player in the threequel.
