THE DEAD WILL TAKE A WHILE TO WALK AGAIN

Expect a lengthy wait for the second Walking Dead season...

I don't know, I think this could build a lot anticipation, provided they really nail this first season.
Almost a full year between seasons seems too much of a risk. They're gonna have to sell it all over again.
Especially after merely six episodes. They're really going to have to stick the landing with this one if they want people to anticipate it a whole year later.
I never thought the second season would air earlier. They have to write them first, then pre-production and then start filming, which probably won't start until at least April. If you factor in editing and promotion then I don't see how they could start it until next Autumn. Maybe September, but no earlier. Even if it was ready they wouldn't start it in say, August.

That said, I wish it could start in January!

...and with that AMC become a victim of their own success. Are we able to call them "the new HBO" yet or what?

Hell, I'll wait 2-3 years for new Walking Dead.

...and is Rubicon getting a new season?
No, RUBICON has been cancelled. It's starting here on BBC in January. I wasn't going to watch it as it hasn't been renewed but the good word has got me curious.

I've been behind, I honestly thought it was 6 episodes, then a break, then 6 more now that it had been picked up. I thought they had gotten a full season order, and the second season was based purely on the ratings of the pilot, a'la Boardwalk Empire.

But 6 episodes and then a YEAR? That's ridiculous. Why didn't they do a full 12?
Well, no-one's really done a Zombie TV show before. At least not that I know of. So they didn't know how it would be received.
Yeah, a hard-R rated zombie show definitely wasn't a sure thing, popular series or not. Just judging from how many people aren't familiar with the comic on these boards alone shows how much reach it's had.
It was a risk but it paid off big time. I don't see how the mother of all fast-tracking isn't happening right now. Of course you could say that with Mad Men and Breaking Bad AMC isn't in need of big names during the summer and with spring understandably out of the question, next fall looks like the only open spot.
I just wish TERRIERS had launched in summer. It has a summer feel and could have been marketed during JUSTIFIED. Less competition then too.
It's not a totally unreasonable break between seasons, considering the work the very nature of this show entails (effects, locations etc.) and also the fact that they'll have to write for double the amount of episodes. It pisses me off, but this sort of wait is not unheard of, Breaking Bad itself is taking a horrifyingly long break.

If I were the suits in this case, I would take advantage of the show's massive sandbox to commission some webisodes or shorts to air coupled with other shows in order to maintain demand and help push other AMC projects. You wouldn't even necessarily use any of the main characters, since the pedigree of the show is it's premise and story moreso than any standout leads so far. Done creatively, these would be incredibly cheap to produce.

Long hiatus... es(?) seem to have always hurt any shows that isn't animated; after the strike a few years ago, there's plenty of evidence to support this. I think they'll blink. Or put me in charge. One of the two, for sure.

So did AMC bring some folks from SyFy over?
Am I the only one who thinks "Hope I don't die!" when they announce waits this long between seasons?

I don't think it has anything to do with production, and everything to do with AMC having Mad Men & Breaking Bad in the summer.
Even if no episodes are even outlined as of right now (probably unlikely), they could still be in production by Jan/Feb and air in the Spring/Summer if they wanted to.

This wouldn't suck so much if we were getting a full season instead of 6 eps.

I'm gonna be a lone voice of dissent and say I'm glad we get the wait. I like anticipation in my life. So as long as I don't die (you're not the only one Evi) I'm cool with this. IN fact I wish they had a bit more time to get evrything just right. Rushing things did not do Iron Man 2 any favors.

People are able to wait years in between sequels to popular film franchises. Why would it be any different in the television medium?
A year between seasons is standard practice over here.
Also, if this season stays strong it won't take much to reel people back in next Fall. All it will take is one ad or promo for someone to say, "Hey Walking Dead is back! Where's my DVR remote . . . "

If I see Carl look any bit older, I'm out. They better put him in a freezer so he stays looking 12. If Carl looks one day older then the season finale, Rick better say "Carl, why have you aged so much". Otherwise the series is illogical, dumb, badly written, badly directed, and everyone is a cardboard cutout. WORST SHOW ON TV...

Sorry for the Nitpicks, but I really like the show... I think.....
