A CHUD Christmas: 2010 - Page 2

We're hitting The Nutcracker this Saturday (first time for both of us), and the Candlelight Processional at EPCOT on Sunday, where we get to hear Trace Adkins tell us about baby Jesus (that was the mother-in-law's choice, not ours). For tonight, with it being the coldest night of the year, we're going to whip up some hot chocolate and s'mores and watch the Rankin-Bass specials, plus some Charlie Brown and Grinch. And we still have to do our annual "night we drive around and look at lights". Not to mention I still have shopping to do...

I got to play shopping wingman for my sister-in-law tonight; she had put out a BOLO for the elusive Zhu Zhu Pet Princess Castle for her little girls. I found three remaining in stock on Amazon and was able to get the news to her in time for her to save the holiday for the nieces. This was my first specifically uncle-related activity since I met her, and it felt pretty good to make the assist.

Last night was the king of Holiday specials, Aqua Teen Hunger Force's timeless classic, Cybernetic Ghost of Christmas Past. From here, it's all downhill until I fly out to spend the holiday with my mom and her husband, down on Florida's Space Coast.

Happy Holidays, everyone

Today is a good day on the Advent Calendar, as far as I'm concerned. This has not been the easiest X-Mas season for me. I started off with the best of intentions (having planned to decorate my tree on the first of December), but due to a confluence of factors that may or may not include SAD (I assume the lack of sun is playing a role in my melancholy), I have done hardly any X Mas prep

My house flooded from a burst pipe a week or so back, so that has definitely complicated matters, but I have not even been over to my moms to bake cookies yet (I've said I'd do it a bunch of times and then drop out at the last minute) and I am feeling pretty disappointed by my Grinchiness

Anyway, I posting for two reasons:

1) To share Bill Maher's Christmas Message with the CHUD CHRISTMAS 2010 thread
Quote:
"What people really value is acquiring crap. Oprah's show purports to be a lot about spirituality. If it was, then wouldn't she tell her worshiping flock to sit down and stop losing your sh*t over material stuff? As for me, I don't really know what spirituality means, but I know if you're weeping over a sweater then you don't either."
2) To share my delight at the discovery that tomorrow is in fact not Christmas Eve! I've been operating under the assumption that Thursday was Christmas Eve for like a week now, and it's a relief to know that I can do my tree decoration tomorrow and it won't technically be a last minute affair

So, with luck, timing and the favor of the gods I'll have some tree photos to share for tomorrow. I am only going to have about 300 lights though as that is all my parents agreed to get me. I was hoping for at least 500, and I wanted faceted white bulbs instead of regular ones. Instead it's all regular bulbs

Gonna sit alone in my darkened room and drink on Christmas Eve.

Also, gonna volunteer at a homeless shelter on Christmas Day.

I just came home to a fucking TV that won't turn on. I plugged it into different outlets and the bastard won't fucking budge. Guess it died during the day. You know what that means? I get to buy myself a new TV. YAY!!!!! Of course, I can't afford a TV to save my life but it's an item that I do need in order to survive. Couple this with my fucking producer at work selling me down the river to my boss and this has been a grand old fucking Christmas time.

I want to beat something to death, it's the only way I will feel better. Where is la tenia?

Sorry for bitching, just had to vent. I felt the Christmas thread was appropriate because this is my karmic Christmas to myself

That's some tasty Christmas ham there, Phil.

My Christmas is, for once, going to be mostly a really great one: due to the ex taking a shift that day, I get my daughters for the whole day. Really happy about it. We likely won't be doing anything spectacular, but have talked about playing some board games, watching Christmas eps of favorite shows, and seeing a couple of in town relatives.

Usually most of my Christmas day is spent in the car, picking the girls up, driving to another city to see relatives....so being able to spend the majority of this day at home with my kids is a real treat.

Looks like we're doing the family Christmas on Christmas Eve since one of my brothers-in-law works all day on Christmas. Me and the wife will still do our gifts on Christmas morning though.

It'll be a miracle if I don't kill my Father in law this Christmas.

If that's true then you've made my Christmas.

You get scorpions in your stocking.

But yeah, don't have anywhere to go this year. I'll probably just get sloshed with my roommates. Though a girl is taking me out to see True Grit on Christmas day after I finish volunteering at this homeless shelter(hopefully they call me back today) and I'll probably get laid, so there's that.

If you haven't already, I strongly suggest watching Fanny och Alexander with your family. Hopefully no murder will occur during or afterwards.

Wait, first you claim loneliness and then you say you'll likely get laid? Pffft. I hope the condom breaks.

Merry Christmas, all you fuckers!

That's kind of what I was going for. But in a more hateful and less satirical sense.

I promise to yell your name when I cum, Spike.

I went 2 weeks ago, drank a bunch of German beer, and had Whoopi (not in the Newlywed Game sense of the word).

Since I imagine a lot of you are going to start getting scarce over the next half a day or so, let me wish all of you a merry Christmas filled with health and hope, especially those of you who've had some rough times this year. Do this yule up right, Chewers!

Three double patches of Christmas sugar cookies (roughly 150? cookies), with one batch ending up as animal crackers (forgot the shortening ><):

Done

Five-Six tray 12"x18" trays of Candied Pecans:

Done

Two chinese takeout bozes, one with nuts, one with cookies, Two holiday gift-trade bags of goodies, two tins of half nuts, half cookies; and twenty small treat bags:

Done.

Now I just have to ship one tin, two gift bags, and one chinese takeout box with cookies, and I"ll be through with this damned holiday.

Salvete, omnes, and "IO SATVRNALIA"*! It is 12:07AM EST December the 25th MMX AD and I would like to take this moment to wish a very Merry Christmas to the whole CHUD-munity(c) and a Merry Christmas to one and all!

*Meaning "hello everyone and 'Hail to Saturn'", a traditional Christmas greeting. Because as we all know, we owe this festive Yuletide season to the official Roman State Holiday of Saturnalia
post #73 of 147
Merry Christmas, everyone! And I do mean that in the Gary Oldman sense of the word. Not just the people who are always nice.

EVERRRRYYYYYYYYYOOOOOOOOONNNEEE!!!

Currently weighing the need to make fresh buttermilk biscuits for the family against the lack of desire to leave my nice, cozy camper and walk across the yard in the freezing rain, sans coat in order to get into my mom's house.

Merry Christmas, y'all. I'm about to get drenched in cold-ass rain.

the Ham is glazed, the almond sugar cookies are cooling, the coffee is percolating, the potatoes have been sliced and diced into numerous configurations and the nut roast is....doing whatever the hell a nut roast does. I think I've got a handle on this Christmas thing.

Just going to chill out and watch Christmas With the Joker whilst I wait for all of my cooking times to synchronise.

Hope you're all having an amazing Christmas.
Lovely Christmas morning with the wife, now off to the mother-in-law's to while away the day. Hope you're all having a great one.
It stopped raining right as soon as I set foot on the floor in order to venture outside. I made it to the house dry as a bone. Mini Christmas miracle? You be the judge.

Also, my biscuits were tremendous. WOOT!

Having a wonderful Christmas with my family and fiance. Got Inception and Hauso on blu-ray already and I'm looking forward to a few more!

Merry Happy!

Spending the Morning with family, the afternoon with family, the day with family. I can't complain. All my best to all you chewers.

I've been receiving message after message from concerned friends who think my family has been in a holiday fight because I posted "‎You know what I'm going to get you next Christmas, Mom? A big wooden cross, so that every time you feel unappreciated for your sacrifices, you can climb on up and nail yourself to it." on my wall.

My parents got me "World's Greatest Dad" and asked me if we should watch it as a family today. There was a pregnant pause before I recommended Scrooged instead.
Survived the icy UK roads and made it to Somerset from London. So far, have received the usual chocs, novelty socks and INCEPTION on Bluray. Hoping for a DVD of THE TRIP!
LOL to Bobby Bear and Patrick Riproll for their X-Mas holiday humor! WOLDS GREATEST DAD would make for the most awkward X-Mas ever!

I am currently eating cinimon muffins, and caviar. I got Marzipan, a snuggie and both seasons of CARNIVALE for XMAS

PS Also got a microfiber cleaning thing that you wear on your fingers for my iPod Touch

Cheers, Kate. I saw an opportunity to bring Stansfield into a Christmas message to the Sewer and thought "well, why not?"

My girlfriend got me a bacon wallet, a cool Echo Park tshirt, this poster from the Time Travel Mart:

And the best would be this poster she made and did a print for me:
SEE NEXT PAGE OF THREAD.
Umm, how much must I pay for a duplicate? I mean, WOW.
Been telling her she should be selling it. She just finished it earlier this week. If mondotees can sell posters that then go for ten times that much on ebay she can probably do okay with it. If I can get enough call for it perhaps I can get her to sell it. Also told her she's gotta make more, with Blues Brothers (one of her favorites) as the next assignment.
Well, um . . . Keep me updated? I would have pimped that print in the Chewer Gift Guide. Dang. A shop on etsy could be awesome.

Merry Christmas to all my fellow Chewers! Eating some good turkey right now, got my folks some great presents and got some great presents from them.

Woke up to Rachel's Theme from Blade Runner, as my Dad was listening to his LP of the Blade Runner soundtrack. That's a great way to start the day.

Merry Christmas!

Finished the ritual savaging of wrapping paper and everyone is split doing their own thing until supper prep.

Did someone else get that for you?
Nah, I received it from you, and also ordered a copy for a friend. I also gave my sister Inception for Christmas.
I got INCEPTION, but got it the day it hit DVD as an EARLY XMAS GIFT. It was not under The Tree this morning, but on top of my HD DVD PLAYER

In Denver for the holidays due to work, so I'm away from my family for the first time. We were efficient in our time at the trucks and got out at a decent time, now I just have a crew meal at 6:30 MT. After that, I will come back to my room to do a little work and then throw in DIE HARD.
