Steven Soderbergh eyeing The Man from U.N.C.L.E.

I'll echo what I said on Facebook: please be period, please be period, please be period...

Yeah, that's a great point. It would work better set in the 60's.

Hahahaha what the Hell.

Pretty excited for this, and crossing my fingers that they're keeping it in the 1960s.

I agree that the original show holds up well for the most part (the latter episodes get a bit silly). I hope that a) Soderbergh has room for a David McCallum cameo, and b) they'll re-release the DVDs to tie in with this. That Complete Series suitcase set is too expensive to import here.

P.S. Steve is doing a great job working for CHUD. Now bring us some podcasts!

Hey, thanks a lot. I genuinely appreciate that!

As a big fan of UNCLE (I totally agree about preferring it to The Avengers and its up there with Mission: Impossible for me), I fully endorse this choice of director. A splash of The Informant! and a heap of the Ocean's films and this puppy will fly.

Commence Solo and Kuryakin fan casting.... NOW.

Precisely my thoughts. An Ocean's-style Soderbergh playing with a period spy story (and a Giacchino score) would be aces. Doing it modern wouldn't have that same feel.

If he wasn't already doing a 60s period piece, I'd throw out Jon Hamm for Solo.

Early rumours (unsurprisingly) have Clooney pegged for Solo.

Daniel Craig for Kuryakin?

Can Tom Hardy do an American accent? Can Paul Bettany do a Russian accent? If the answer is yes to both, then get on that shit.

Oh helly yes!

Also echoing the Steve love, keep it up buddy.

Paul Bettany would be a stroke of GENIUS for Kuryakin. And I don't remember McCallum having much of an accent anyway, so that's not a deal breaker, either.

I didn't even consider period until coming in here. That's a fantastic idea.

And simply because I have a huge man-crush on Clooney, and would love to see him take on this type of role - ESPECIALLY - in period, I hope they collaborate on this.

Soderbergh has earned a green pass from me on everything he will ever do. Meaning I will at least see it with interest and excitement. Not promising that I'll like it.

Speaking of that green pass projects, where's his 3D Guided by Voices Cleopatra Musical?

Just make sure to use the Season 2 version of the theme (with the bass intro, flute and bongos).

Soderbergh is a great choice for this.

I'd love a Clooney-Pitt two piece personally. I'm still waiting for a two hander that gives them their modern day Newman-Redford moment.

And who's a better Walter Hill for them than Soderbergh? NO ONE.

i triple echo my love for Paul Bettany as Kuryakin. Still not sure about Clooney as Solo. i grew up on this series and won't stand for slovenly work by anyone for this. Will keep my fingers crossed. And yes--they have to make it period.

I'd be happy with a Clooney/Craig combo or a Matt Damon/Paul Bettany team-up.

But really I'm just smilin' all over that this is happening with Soderbergh at the helm.

OR! Let's get that much-needed MASTER AND COMMANDER reteaming of Crowe and Bettany.
