WIZARD OF OZ REMAKE LOOKING AT ZEMECKIS

Zemeckis may direct remake for Warner Bros.

Well, "live-action" means "no mo-cap," so count me about 15% more interested than I would have been otherwise.

One of those few movies that I can't understand why they would remake it.

Citizen Kane
Gone With The Wind
Casablanca

Why put up with all of the grief? The audience reaction could never be the same to a remake. Just asking for trouble with this one.

Nothing good can come from this.

Remaking a perfect movie is never the best idea...

There's nowhere to go but DOWN with quality. Bad idea.

I hate to say it (because I really don't dig most of what I've seen of the dead-eyes uncanny CG), but a mocap version would at least be... different.

I don't think the movie is perfect, or even that entertaining. But it is a classic. I remember my mom telling me about how she felt when the film changed from B&W to color. Different times.

Maybe if they added the Zombies from Ryan Thomas' book 'The undead Land of Oz'.

So now Kansas is filmed normally and Oz is 3D.

Oh god, what if they heard me...

Let's just release this, the Downey/Raimi movie and WICKED all on the same day. Seriously, how many new takes on THE WIZARD OF OZ do we need?!

With an appropriately timed text message to all audience members to let them know when to put on their glasses.

Indeed. This is a fucking terrible idea.

And just after I'd been feeling good about Zemeckis while going through the Back to the Future blu-rays...

Mo-cap in and of itself is fine. It's just that the only time Zemeckis has had the script to bolster the tech wankery was Beowulf. Roger Avary's in jail; Neil Gaiman's schedule involves nailing Amanda Palmer now and forever, Amen.

Project doesn't stand a chance.

If they are making a new movie based on other Oz stories, like the musical Wicked or that movie focused on the Emerald Wizard, I have no problem with it. However, remaking THE classic Wizard of Oz is just crazy. What's next, a remake of Gone With the Wind and Citizen Kane?

**Cough**

I gotta say, whomever's idea it was to greenlight this needs to get a sudden onset attack of IBS.

I believe Tron is already pulling that stunt.

Well, too bad it's not standard Zemeckis mocap in the style of Polar Express and Beowulf. If that were the case, then I really would believe that the Scarecrow lacked a brain and that the Tin Man lacked a heart. Groundbreaking communication of the inner turmoil of characters, that.

Original Score by Toto, please.

This sounds like the Colossal Bad Idea to rule over all Colossal Bad Ideas. 100 bucks says they do some of CG trickery to create the Munchkins, a la Deep Roy in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

No, just no.
