COWBOY & ALIENS TRAILER AMBLES INTO TOWN - Page 2

Looks awesome and fun from that trailer. Craig seems to have been born to play a cowboy, he's grizzled to fuck.
It's a pretty fucking specific title. Come up with new ones then.

You know, like, "My Wrist Glows Amenesia".
I hope my whiskey-swilling comment wasn't actually seen as nitpicking. I meant it in a "Ha ha, this looks like Unforgiven, but where's the booze like real cowboys drink?" way.

I have to echo Eileen and the man-crushing on Craig. He never did much for me, but when he's all dusty and sweaty like that, I totally want to be his tenpenny whore.

Space Cowboys!!!!

Oh wait...

That IS hard.

Considering this is Orci/Kurtzman/Lindeloff working on what is no doubt meant to be the beginning of a franchise, I wonder what kinds of convoluted backstory and mythos they have planned for this...
STAR RUSTLERS? WATCH THE WESTERN SKY? WE DON'T TAKE KINDLY TO SPACEMEN 'ROUND THESE PARTS? A MARTIAN DRANK MY WHISKEY?

COWBOYS & ALIENS it is then.

Bravestar!

High Plains Prober?

When it comes to dirty and grizzled, Harrison has Craig beat.

In other words, this one's....
FOR THE LADIES

Hear, hear! I didn't know Carradine was in this, but once I saw him I got a bit giddy.

Count me as really enjoying this trailer. I was surprised by the serious tone, but it worked for me.

And Carradine! And Harrison Ford looking more invested than he has in years!

Home on the Strange? Reach for the Sky? (Hmm, that's not half bad...)

Anyway, this looks great. The Western parts look good, the space parts look good, count me in.

Bonus points if Favreau somehow worked in a Frisco Kid reference.
I like the title. It's pretty silly, especially given that the movie itself seems to be taking itself seriously. But it sticks out in a memorable way, and the way it plays on 'cowboys and indians' sparks the imagination I think.
I admit, Harrison Ford still got it. I said that last night during Conan -- and then he opened his mouth and slurred out nonsense. Goddammit.

Give me this one any day. He's a hell of a lot sharper even 20 years later.

So many levels! I like it! It can be threatening or disgustingly motivational!

Thanks nooj. That manhorse looks quite violated.

Reach for the sky is the ultimate tagline for the film.

Looks to me like he's the one about to start the violations.

Based upon how the characters are presented in the trailer, we could probably call it 'The Good (Craig), The Bad (Ford), and the Aliens'.

It's not right either way!

The more fantastical the subject matter the more realistic the tone needs to be for balance.

Great teaser.

God damn it...are you trying to dampen my excitement for this? Somehow, I was unaware that Orci and Kurtzman had a hand in this. Sigh.
Really looking forward to it now.

See, this isn't Earth, it's a colony on an Earth-type planet that, due to dwindling resources, reverted back to 19th-century technology, and the aliens are actually Earth ships trying to re-supply them. They're fighting the ones trying to help them!

Great teaser.
Not necessarily...look at 'Tremors'.

"Olson is GONE, sir!"

Well, how did you feel about Star Trek? Those 3 were involved with that as well. Let's hope Favreau can have an Abrams-like influence on their script.

Depending on how much you enjoyed Trek, that is.

I don't need this to be silly or campy. I like the tone in the trailer. I just hope that there is still a sense of fun about it. Just don't be dour! Playing it straight sounds like the right way to go.

Alright M. Night.

Alternate tagline: GET OFF MY PLAIN

Yeah, I was one of the handful of people who didn't much care for the Trek reboot, and the main reason was the terrible script. I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic about this one, but suddenly I have bad feeling about this.

Sorry...couldn't resist the Star Wars reference.

Totally sold on this one. Looks like a blast. Really, really glad they got Craig instead of Downey. Craig's "seriousness" will play terrific off the goofy premise.
A few days back I saw the trailer for The Way Of The Warrior and thought "Wow. Surely nothing can be better than ninjas vs cowboys!"

I was wrong.

I was so very wrong.
Didn't enjoy the comic enough to go past issue #2, IIRC, so I'm really surprised at how much I'm liking this trailer. More than anything, I suppose, it helps to define what a movie star is: I didn't particularly feel anything for the characters in the book, but turn them into Craig and Rockwell and Ford and Carradine, and I'm there.

But then, I'm one of the weirdos that enjoyed Iron Man 2-- not as startlingly good as the first, but still engaging and fun.

I am jealous I did not think of this before you.

Seems like 2011 will have a great summer. This, for sure, looks like a movie that's going to be unabashedly fun. Can't really say no to Craig, and man I want to give Ford the chance to kick some ass and chew some scenery.
Wow, that actually looks a lot cooler than I thought it would.
First, Why the hell is Sam Elliot not in this movie?

Second, I really really really want to love this movie a whole bunch.
Harrison Ford has spent the last 20 years actively trying to annihilate the world's largest store of audience goodwill, and essentially succeeding. And yet...seeing him in cowboy gear actually did give me a little shiver.

A lot of the titles suggested here are indeed pretty awesome. If "reach for the sky" doesn't actually become the movie's tagline, we need to all form a marketing firm together.

You know, with this, Thor, Green Lantern and, let's be honest, Your Highness, 2011 looks like The Year Of Movies We Want To Be Great But Still Have An Alarming Possibility Of Sucking.
Maybe 2012 is the doomsday year, and will be caused my the massive nerdrage meltdown after 2011 ends up disappointing everyone.
This will be the only film next summer to not suck.
It's pretty amazing that Favreau has this movie coming out just a year after having Iron Man 2 come out. Did he jump right from one to the other?
That looks fantastic!

And why are aliens invading the old west more implausible than aliens attacking today?

If it hasn't happened after 2010's offerings the likes of Clash Of The Titans, Prince Of Persia and Iron Man 2 then nothing will. Tho to be fair to some of the more negative types here, maybe 2010 going bust when it comes to many of its blockbusters is informing their reticence to get excited about this current crop of trailers?

...or maybe they're just miserable bastards who knows.

Either way, I liked what I saw. I'm still getting my head around how straight its being played, but seeing Harrison actually looking like he halfway gives a shit was a surprising pleasure. Craig, Rockwell and Carradine have me onboard as well.

Bring it.
this gets a big ol fuck yea from me. so good
post #94 of 202
Wow, Harrison Ford looks like he's actually not sleepwalking through this one.
I loved it. Ford and Craig both looked good to me with the cowboy stuff and the action looks good too.
Trailer is ok, but if I was in charge I would have cowboy Harrison Ford see the UFO then just kinda nonchalantly nod and walk away, Billy Bob style.
This could be interesting. The Western/Sci-fi aspect of things keeps me skeptical.
Great trailer, perfectly set up with a minimum of dialog.
All right. You win, Cowboys and Aliens. The poster looks retroactively appropriate, and I trust Jon Favreau. Craig and Ford look like a great match-up, and I can stare at Olivia Wilde for a long, long time without getting bored.

My only very minor issue is the wrist-laser thing. It just seems a little goofy to me. But I can live with it if they're gonna play it this seriously.
Great teaser trailer, and I''m looking forward to seeing Craig and Ford team up on the big screen. I'll be there.

I'm loving this resurgence of westerns. We've got True Grit and this one on tap. Here's hoping more westerns start coming out within the next year or 2.
